Guest guest
MY SECRETS Thursday, 20 January 2011 So, you want to know my secrets on how I stay motivated to exercise? Well let me begin by telling you something you may already know about me. And that is, for the first 20-something years of my life, I didn't exercise...at all! In fact, even the thought of exercise was a turnoff for me! I mean, really, you go do some tiring exercise activity and get all sweaty. Hey, not my idea of a good time! Now a tall roast beef sandwich with French fries and onion rings on the side, then you were talking! And did my body look good with that no-exercise lifestyle of mine? No. Did I feel healthy? No. But yes...I was a total couch potato, satisfied lying on the couch, watching TV with a tasty snack within easy reach. But at that point in my life, I wasn't willing to get motivated and make exercise a regular part of my life. When I moved to Los Angeles in the 70's, that all changed. As I lost weight, I knew exercise had to become part of my life...for the rest of my life. I went to lots of exercise studios in the city, searching for the workout I thought would be just right for me. And after a lot of looking, I found what I loved...aerobic dancing! See, one of my secrets for staying motivated to exercise is to make sure I'm having fun when I workout. And I've always loved to dance. So that meant having some good music, with a hot beat and the music really thumping! When I'm dancing and moving this body of mine, I'm truly at my happiest. One of my other secrets for staying motivated to exercise is making it a must-do part of my daily routine. Hey, I don't skip brushing my teeth or taking a bath everyday so, let me tell you, I don't skip a single day of my workouts either. That's because I know my body would really miss it. I wouldn't even feel like myself if I didn't workout everyday. Another one of my secrets is that I dream when I workout. That's right, I think about how good my body is going to feel when I'm done. That sweat I used to dread now makes me feel so-o-o-o good. And I like to see the changes in my body, that is, the stronger muscles and more energy that are rewards of my daily workouts. And my final secret is this. When I workout, I know I'm actually getting "younger" because exercise really holds back the effects of time on our bodies. We look and feel younger. And hey, who doesn't want that? I wanted to share these secrets with you today because I want you to make them your secrets. And okay, what did I do for my workout today? Well, I did cardio and worked out with free weight to tone my biceps and triceps. I love it! And tell me. What will you do for your workout today. Oh...I guess that's your little secret. LOL!
