This morning, I could have sung like a nun on a mountain top. Happiness is just beaming out of my body! We had a hot shower this morning. The sun rise was magnificent in AZ. Our truck and my husband. After the shower, we went to the truck stop restaurant for breakfast. I looked at the options and did something different. I had no cravings and none of the high carb foods lured me at all, but the eggs and beef patty came with potatoes and toast, so I ordered it without toast and asked for the potatoes to be put on a separate plate....I have not done that before. I knew my husband would want the potatoes and this was much easier to do, instead of scraping food from a plate. I have to say that the beef patty was delicious and provided more meat than had I ordered bacon or sausages. Other than the carbs in the eggs and the half and half for my coffee, this was a very low carb breakfast, at 5g carbs, I was heartily satisfied and felt good. . I was reading another mindful book last night, called Eating the Moment and found a section on how to eat mind-fully. I loved that description, i like the idea that part of eating is through the senses, but part is also how we fill up our minds with eating and the satisfaction that can come through how we think about food. I liked the idea about saying " mmmmm " when something really tasted good. I tried that this morning, there was one particular bite that tasted so good that I went ahead and made the " mmmm " sound. It enhanced the experience by doing that. I was amazed. While it always feels so weird to try and be mindful when eating, I am finding her suggestions are great little ways to connect oneself to the process and experience of eating. I found myself very in-tune with eating this morning and really enjoying it. The food on my plate was tasty, it was low carb, it was enough food. All the negatives were simply not there, the thoughts of guilt over calories, the worry about the carbs, the feelings of wanting to eat what I know is not healthy for me. I plan on making the " mmmm " sound anytime a bite tastes exceptionally good! I like her other ideas, like making every other bite mindful, or the 5 and 10, where you take a 5 minute pause halfway through a meal to check in with mindfulness and a 10 minute pause at the end before taking seconds. This one was about giving the body and mind a chance to connect on satiety. Great book, I think this one will keep me interested, not as lengthy in it's experiments as the Slow Down Diet and not as philosophical as the Zen of Eating. Each has it's merits, but right now I like the quick mini helpers the book Eating the Moment has. --
