Guest guest
ARE YOUR MEALS PLANNED? Monday, 10 January 2011 Now what have I told you so many times in the past, huh? Well, I've told you that if you want to lose weight and get that body of yours into better shape, you've got to plan your meals. And I'm talking about all three of them...breakfast, lunch and dinner. Planning your meals is not difficult and it doesn't take that much time either. Last night, before I went to bed, I planned the three meals I'd be having today. Breakfast: A bowl of oatmeal with blueberries, a glass of water, took my vitamins and I had a cup of hot tea, Celestial Seasonings Orange Spice. (So good in the morning!) Lunch: A tasty salad with cooked string beans, beets and carrots, drizzled with an oil & vinegar dressing. I also had a glass of nonfat milk and a cup of grapes. Dinner: Two thin slices of turkey meatloaf, steamed pencil asparagus, (those are the really skinny ones), half-a-yam, a serving of my wonderful spaghetti squash and a pear. When I woke up this morning, I took the little sheet with my meal plan downstairs and kept it in the kitchen. Now I want you to notice something. And that is, I planned all three of my meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't ever skip a single meal. But I know that a lot of you do. Oh, you're rushing out of the house in the morning and claim you don't have time to whip together a healthy breakfast to start your day. Once you get to work, many of you work straight through the lunch hour and don't take time to have a good-for-you lunch. (You were "too busy" again, right?) But I know something else that may be going on here. Some of you think that by skipping a meal, you're "saving calories." And let me tell you, this is not a good idea. I'll explain. See, your body and especially your brain doesn't like it when you skip meals. When you do, your brain thinks your body is going into starvation mode. So when the brain notices there's no food entering your tummy after a while, it orders your body to hold on to every calorie you've eaten earlier. (Think of it as a survival thing your body does.) But here's the worse part. When you skip a meal, you may be more tempted to overindulge at your next meal. Why? Because you're hungry! And the real irony is that by skipping a meal to save calories you, more often than not, actually end up consuming more calories! Some of you have the mind set that you want to lose weight fast this year. Well...get over it! Hey, you've tried "fast" before and it didn't work, did it? Remember, it's all about balance. Do the math. Figure out how many calories you need to be eating each day to lose weight and, once you do, stay on program.
