WHO'S IN

CONTROL?

Sunday, 06 February 2011

", I'm simply just out

of control with my eating. And I really don't know

how to get in control of the food. Please help me!"

Okay, I must admit, I do like

E-mails that get right to the point. And

let me be honest with you, for a lot of years, I

wasn't in control of my own eating, any more

than the lady who sent me that E-mail. In fact, in my

old days, what I ate was much more in control of me.

I'm telling you, I thought about food...all day

long. Wanna know how bad it was? Well, let me

tell you.

Sometimes, as I ate one meal, I

was already anticipating what I'd be eating at my next

meal! How awful is that, huh? Now that's what I

call being controlled by food!

So, are you controlled by the food in your

life? If you are then I want you to listen up. You

have to figure out why the food has such a

hold on you. For me, food was "my friend". It never

judged me or talked back to me. The food would simply

wait on that plate saying to me...C'mon, I'm all

yours!

And oh, I'd invite my friend, food, with me

everywhere. I wasn't the most sociable kid in school

but I was always happy to "socialize" with a hearty

BLT sandwich, loaded with mayo. Ahhhh, dear food.

Eating always made me feel "better" when I was down.

Food was also a great source of "comfort" for me.

But...it sure wasn't making my body comfortable!

Maybe food has control over you

for the same reasons it once had so much

control over me. But it's time for you to get serious

about this whole control thing between you and the

food. Starting today, you've got to work hard to be

in control of what you eat from the time you wake up

in the morning until you turn in for bed at night.

And that's where planning comes in. Because

when you plan your meals, you are in control and,

therefore in control of what you eat. When you only

have foods in your house that're on your healthy

weight-loss plan, it helps you stay in control of the

foods you put into your hand...and into your mouth!

Let me ask you something. Who's in control when you

go out to a restaurant...you or the menu? Who's in

control when you're driving down the street and turn

the car into one of those fast food joints? Hey, you

had to stop that car and go through those golden

arches!

Be honest, you're the one who makes the decision to

overeat and let food control every part of your day.

And the bad news is that some of you detour from your

eating plans so easily. I mean, you can

just be in the supermarket one afternoon and notice a

delightful display of your favorite potato chips.

(They're on sale, too!) And before you know it,

you've loaded a couple of family-size bags into your

cart. You're asking for trouble. You're

putting that food in a position of power to...control

you!

But you've got to be firm with the

food as you take back control. Food, I'm on to

you now! You think you've got me all wrapped up but

your days of controlling me are...over! I'll be in

charge from now on. And you just watch, I will lose

all of the weight I want to lose, too!

Did you plan your meals today? Did you make time to

have a healthy breakfast this morning? (I had half a

pink grapefruit, some fat free vanilla yogurt and a

cup of Mandarin orange tea.) And what about lunch?

Did you pack your own lunch to take to work? What

will you cook for dinner tonight? You've got to make

your meal plans ahead of time and then stick to

them! And hey, when you stick to your plan,

the fat doesn't stick to you anymore.

Now if you get tempted to go off

your healthy food plan today, you just remember who's

really in control...YOU ARE!

Love,
