Guest guest
THE TWO D'S Monday, 21 February 2011 I'm sitting here this morning with a couple of E-mails in front of me from yesterday. After reading each of them several times, I couldn't help but notice the perfect contrast between the two of them. See, a "D" word applies to both of them. One lady wrote and told me about her DESPERATION to lose weight. She'd suffered with a weight problem since she was 8 years-old. She began dieting in earnest in high school and, sadly, she's been dieting ever since with very little success. She'd tried everything from diet pills to weight-loss shakes. She'd even had weight-loss surgery in her efforts to lose weight. She did lose some weight following the surgery but, do you know what? She gained every bit of it back. Today, she's in her 50's so, as you can see, she's been trying to lose weight, for a very, very long time. The last line of her E-mail read: ", I am so desperate to lose this weight. I've tried everything. What should I do now?" Whew! That was the first E-mail. Now let me tell you about the second one. It was from another lady, also in her 50's and she began gaining weight after becoming pregnant for the first time. And by the time she'd had her third child, her weight had increased by 100 pounds! But one day, she took a good look in the mirror, got really angry with herself and declared..."This has got to change. I am going to lose this weight!" She began her mission by first visiting her doctor and getting a complete physical to see where she stood with her health. She also began seeing a nutritionist and joined a gym. So far on her weight-loss journey, she's dropped 61 pounds! And this lady ended her letter by saying, ", I now have the DETERMINATION I'll need to get my body and my health back. I have 31 pounds to go before reaching my goal and I'm determined to get there. These last 31 pounds...will go!" Now, the lady I told you about in the first E-mail qualifies as a desperate woman. (Hey, she even admitted it!) She'd been on so many diets and, like I said, even had surgery to lose weight. But to this day, she's still very overweight. Now she's angry with herself for allowing her weight to get so out of control. As she admitted, she was desperate. But may I tell you something? Good things rarely come out of desperation and that's especially true when it comes to losing weight. Oh, you get yourself into such a tizzy that you're ready to take desperate measures to lose weight, That's right, you're ready to try anything! In fact, some of those desperate people often do take desperate measures to lose weight and, sadly, they may end up very sick as a result. Or even worse, they may end up losing their lives! The second lady had been through a lot trying to lose weight before, too. But the difference on her last try was that she was determined to take her health back. And you know what determination is, right? It's about having belief in yourself and applying that belief to doing what you know you can do! Determined people get up in the morning, plan their meals, plan their workouts and do them every day! Determined people stick to their plans, believe in themselves and keep fighting...all the way to their goals. So, which "D" applies to your life? If you're desperate, please, you need to calm yourself down and begin thinking more logically about what you need to do to lose weight. Look inside yourself and find the determination we all have inside us. Pick yourself back up and begin again. And always remind yourself that yes, you can win this fight. Today is Monday, the beginning of a new week. It's time to turn that desperation into the DETERMINATION you need to lose this weight and reach your goal, once and for all!
