HEART-TO-HEART

TALK

Tuesday, 01 February 2011

Well, look what just crept up on

us...the month of February. So Happy

February to all of you. I know, it's a short

month but you can still get a lot done in the next 28

days. But before we really get into this new month, I

think it's time I had a little heart-to-heart talk

with some of you.

See, I've been asking some people

how they did with their weight-loss in January. As

you know, I encourage everyone to strive to lose

five pounds-a-month on the way to their goal

weights. (Which, by the way, is a very realistic rate

of weight-loss.) But of the many people I've talked

to on this subject, I'd say a full 85% of them did not

achieve that goal of losing five pounds last month. 85%!

And of course, they each had a number of excuses to

give me for why they didn't lose five pounds last

month.

Some of them told me they were

really stressed out at work or at home

and they were pushed them to food to "cope". Others

said that January was a very busy month and they

simply didn't have enough time to workout like they

should.

I also asked some of them about the meals they ate

last month. And let's just say, what many of them ate

was not on their healthy food programs. Roast beef

sandwiches on white bread with gobs of mayo? Now what

kind of a "healthy" meal is that? And let's face it,

who makes a better roast beef sandwich than Arby's? A

couple of people who admitted to going there, also

confessed that because they went already upset about

something, they ended up ordering French fries and

onion rings along with their roast beef sandwiches.

Oh, my!

But it gets worse. Just

yesterday, when I asked one lady how she was doing

with her food, she admitted that, over the course

of one day, she'd consumed a two-pound box of

Stover chocolates. (Hey, I told you it got worse!)

Now listen up everybody, if you didn't lose five

pounds last month, let's face facts, it means you

didn't really try your best. And today, on this first

day of February, you've got to sit down, be honest

with yourself and figure out why you

didn't do your best. I mean if you didn't do well in

January, what makes you think you're going to do well

in February, huh? This month, you'll still have your

family, your job and you'll get the same 24 hours a

day in February that you did in January. Yes, all of

the stresses you had last month will still be there.

But what you've got to figure out now is...what can

you do to make this month better? What can you

do to clean up your act?

Well first of all, you need to really concentrate

on what you're eating. If you know you're attracted

to lots of fattening foods, you've got to end that

relationship. If you don't, then every month of

2011 will roll by without your seeing any weight-loss

progress. Ask yourself...How many times did I

exercise last month? Hey, there were 31 days

in January and that means you should have put in 31

hours of exercise last month, too. Hey, I got

in my 31 hours and I'm a lot older than most of you!

LOL.

And let's talk about the

temptations you'll be facing this month. Already,

store shelves are piled high with heart-shaped boxes

filled with "you-know-what." That's right, Valentine's

Day candies. (And oh, is there anything

better?) But come on! You really have to be

strong this month. Stop listening to the

"voices" of those fattening foods inside your head

and start listening...to me!

Get out your February calendar and write in which

exercises you'll do for each of this month's 28 days.

You also need to go through your kitchen and get rid

of all the foods you find there that don't belong in

your body. Fill this month with tasty salads. Create

some healthy chicken and fish entrees for yourself.

Spend a little more time in the produce section of

your local supermarket and stock up on up fresh.

Yesterday, I went to the market and brought home some

beautiful pink grapefruit, some papaya, bananas and

oranges. I also brought home a variety of lettuce,

tomatoes and crunchy vegetables to enjoy this week.

Look, if you didn't do so well

this month, let's put aside what happened in January.

And now, let's really focus on this new

month God has blessed us with. Get ready to shine in February!

And by the way, if you think candy

is good and sweet, you're not gonna believe how

sweet it is when you stay on program and reach

your healthy weight!

Love,
