I know it does for my cousin. Do you do 2-hour after meal readings? If yes, are they staying below 180? Perhaps you're not eating *enough* and it was a rebound glucose dump by the liver? This page: http://www.helium.com/items/2022789-what-is-a-liver-dump-and-gluconeogenesis explains why it happens to Type 2's who go on a low-carb food plan. You did recently cut calories down so maybe this triggered it. Hopefully it was just a fluke (Bad strip, perhaps?) and tomorrow's will be back to normal. Guest guest
I don't know what medication or diet you are on, although it appears to be high protein/fat and low carbs, but I lowered my BG from 126 to 86 in the first three weeks of my diet by eating a Mediterranean style diet - and lost 15 pounds to boot (still have 85 to go!)... No red meat, no chicken, very little sugar, just salmon, tuna, whole grains like oatmeal and whole wheat bread, only healthy fats like olive oil, almonds, lots of veggies, both cooked and raw, and fruits.. and I felt satisfied and sometimes couldn't even get to my goal of 1400-1600 calories. My doctor is thrilled so far. My blood pressure went from 140/80 to 126/62. This is a diet I can stay on for life. I just worry sometimes reading your diet posts ... Robin Yes, the carbs were higher than I need, but I am making it two days now without any brandy, and I am keeping my calories in check. However, this morning my BG was 200!!!!! Not good at all. I panicked and checked my weight, and it was still 238. I have no idea why it spiked on 55 carbs.
Guest guest
I really use to like the tea candy, it’s fairly natural in the sense it is just real sugar and real tea. Very pleasant tasting, I enjoyed just having one while playing my computer games in the evening on the truck. Then I switched to a sugar free candy. But we were at World Market and I bought a bag. I noticed right away how intensely sweet it was, as I don’t eat much in the way of sweets anymore. I am so sensitive to grains (gluten) so I wonder if the real sugar plus the 2 thin wasa I had were the culprits. Although both were in such a small amount, it seems 55 carbs shouldn’t send me soaring like that. I tested throughout the day and was able to get down to 115 by evening. This morning I am 83. But then I had no grains or sugar yesterday at all. Sigh. Nope, not feeling sick, knock on wood. Guest guest
Do you follow Dr ’s blog? Wonderful writings on the Med diet and diabetes: http://diabeticmediterraneandiet.com/ He follows my blog and we exchange information. I eat plenty of extra virgin olive oil everyday. I also eat salads of dark greens (sometimes I just choose “salad†on my software program to save time in listing all the ingredients, but it is always romaine and dark red, dark green lettuces). My veggies are limited on the truck, but I still get them in. I eat a small amount of apple (I nibble around my husband’s apple core) but any more and my blood glucose goes up. I am not sure why you are worried about my diet. I eat all fresh and real foods for the most part and I have been able to keep my BG’s down in a normal range without medication. I just knock off the starches and sugars, as a diabetic should. What is it exactly that you are worried about?
