After I saw that slide-show yesterday I looked outside. The icicles hanging from the wires outside my window were *only* about 6 inches long. Ed couldn't get into work - the overhead wires for the light rail train were coated with that ice and the subway tracks, where the trains go outside, were all iced up. He tried phoning in a number of times during the day and never got an answer, so it looks like his whole department called out. He and the kid walked together to a grocery store later on and more than once they had to jump to avoid being hit with falling ice from overhead wires and trees. Once a lady walking half a block in front of them got hit with falling snow from a tree branch. She was lucky it wasn't the branch - so many have been falling this week from the weight of the super-saturated snow and then the ice on top of it. >Actually, I doubt the rides are running during the winter LOL, but had to share... How do ski resorts do it? Those places get snowy all the time. Maybe they keep the lifts running all day and night so they don't get iced up? I've never been to one in my life so have no idea. Does anyone know? Sue in NJ

I'm not sure, but this gondola ride goes up/down the river over the falls, and the water is running fast right now due to all of our snow/rain/crap from this winter and the gondola cars shown are "parked" right over the falls LOL so they're just sitting there getting sprayed with water and it's been single digit temps this week, so it iced up. Pretty cool, but I think someone at the city is actually in trouble over it for not moving them...
