Guest guest
A SMARTER YOU! Monday, 31 January 2011 How many times have I talked yo you about the benefits of exercise? If you count thousands of times, then you're just about right. Still, with all we know about exercise and the good it does for our bodies, the majority of Americans don't exercise on a regular basis. I mean, even when I tell people about the great things exercise will do for them, my words often fall on deaf ears. I've told you that when you work out, it helps make your lungs stronger so you can breathe more efficiently. Working out strengthens your heart and makes it last longer...so you can live longer. And of course, exercise firms your muscles and strengthens your bones, too. But today, I'm going to tell you about another benefit of exercise that you may not have been expecting. And once I tell you what it is, maybe this news will help you turn the corner and finally realize how important exercise is for you...every single day! Okay, I hope you're sitting down because this news is really gonna surprise you. Take a deep breath... Exercise makes your brain stronger! Yes, it's true. See, when you work out, all of your body's blood flows through every vein, artery and capillary. All of that circulation is so important. And here's the good news, it keeps that blood flowing through your brain, too. Believe me, that is a good thing! It's sorta like giving your brain a workout right along with the rest of your body. And as a result, you're making your brain stronger and yourself, yes...smarter! I'm writing a new book called One More Try. And do you know when I love to write most? It's right after I finish one of my workouts. I'm telling you, my thoughts are clearer and I focus better after I've finished working out. Exercise provides more energy for my entire body, starting in my head and spreading all the way to my toes. When we exercise, we keep our bodies alive and strong, beginning with our brains. Do you like working crosswords or doing those Sudoku puzzles in the newspaper? I'm telling you, tackle them after your workout and you'll breeze through them a lot faster. You brain will be all charged up and ready to go! A lot of people who don't exercise regularly tend to get sick. They have lower back problems, heart issues, breathing problems or maybe even end up with diabetes. So tell me, have I gotten your attention today? I can ask all of you the same very important question and it's this: How long would you like to live? Don't you want your body and brain to be healthy as you live to be 100? (I know I do.) I want you to think about that as you're working out today. Yes, think about how much smarter you're getting because, every time you work out, remember, you're doing...the smart thing!
