HA-HA-HA!

Wednesday, 18 August 2010

I began making people laugh at a very early age. I was just born to be silly, I guess and...born to be wild. LOL. I love to make people laugh even when I'm just walking down the street. And I really love making people laugh when I'm in a crowded elevator. They just about have to laugh then because they have nowhere else to go. (Talk about a captive audience!)

I could really make my mother Shirley laugh. She had a great laugh and it would be a long laugh too. Oh, I just loved being silly and tickling that funny bone of hers. This week, my Clubhouse members and I had a really fun chat about laughter. And the first question I asked everyone was which television shows made them laugh the most. I received a long list of shows from all of my members and some of the shows they mentioned used to always make me laugh, too.But my all time favorite comedy to this day is I Love Lucy. I never missed an episode. My brother, Lenny, loved to watch reruns of old TV shows. I never did, uh, with just one exception...I Love Lucy!

From her hysterical facial expressions to the way she used her hands and body, she was just a classic when it came to making us laugh. And that voice of hers...perfect for making me laugh. Oh, I can laugh just thinking about Lucy and her friend, Ethel and their zany antics on the show. I couldn't wait for an episode and no matter how many times I saw it, I'd be laughing all the way through. From the cute theme music played during the show's opening, with the big heart graphic, I Love Lucy was always a guaranteed good time and plenty of laughs! I'd be glued to the screen the whole time and would even use some of her lines in school the next day. Reruns of I Love Lucy still air all over the world...and they should!I had the honor of meting Lucille Ball during several episodes of some game shows we appeared on together back in the 80s. I have to tell you that in person, she's every bit as wonderful and funny as I expected. What a great gal she is!The second question I asked my Clubhouse members was to name a movie that made them laugh. Everyone had their favorites. They told about the movies they'd seen that had them laughing to the point of tears.

One of my own favorite funny movies has to be Sister Act. That Whoopi Goldberg is really something. Just like Lucy, she's got that animated face and one-of-a-kind voice that just begs me to laugh. The third question I asked my members was this: Why is it important for us to laugh? Do you know why? Well, I'm going to tell you. You see, that old saying we've heard for years is true, laughter is the best medicine!Laughter helps release stress and relaxes your whole body. It also boosts your immune system. Laughter shakes up everything. Did you know that when you laugh, your body releases endorphins that actually help you feel good? And you know what else laughter does? It actually helps protect your heart. It's true! All of those chuckles increase your blood flow which is so-o-o good for your circulation and your heart. I also believe that when we laugh, all of that jiggling our bodies do helps burn calories, too! Hey, I know I've laughed until breaking out in a good sweat! Haven't you?

I find things to laugh about everyday, including myself! Yes, I do find things about myself to laugh at and I think that's healthy, too. This week, make plans to see a movie that's going to make you laugh so hard that your sides hurt. Or, flip through the channels on your TV and find an old I Love Lucy episode or your favorite comedy. And while you're at it, today try to find something about yourself to laugh at, too!Now remember to take your medicine by having a good laugh!Love,
