Guest guest
When we pulled into a truck stop last evening, we saw s BBQ restaurant. It had smokers outside and tons of stacked wood. It was family owned and not a chain. I was surprised that husband asked me if I wanted to go over there for dinner. The last time we tried a BBQ, he didn't care for it. We went and it was really good! It was the selection of meat and two sides, which were cole slaw, potato salad and beans. I asked for just the coleslaw, but he gave me a double scoop which was way too much for me to finish. So I had the brisket and coleslaw and nothing else. I ate slowly which now means I am only half way through eating when Husband is finished, but that's not something I am going to worry about. I really like eating slow. Husband was impressed over the flavour of the meat and when we got back to the truck, he put a star next to the truck stop listed in his book and made a note of the restaurant. So he took me out for an anniversary dinner after all! I was a little nervous about the coleslaw, although it tasted fresh and not commercially made, I thought there might be too much sugar in the dressing. It was very tasty, nice and strong as coleslaw should be. My BG was a low 67 this morning, wow. It has only been this low once before. I am not sure if this is getting too low, but I am not shaky or feeling anything but great, so I am not too worried. I have a bottle of glucose pills for my husband if his drops that low as I don;t want him to drive with any potential of a low blood sugar incident. He's hit the 60's a couple of times. Neither of us have had any associates reactions though. His BG was 98 this morning after having the beans and potato salad, so he is doing very well. This morning my appetite was gone. I was hungry when I woke up during the night, but it wasn't strong enough to feed. Why it was gone this morning, I don't know, but I decided to honour it, and just had a cup of coffee and a small square of cheese. I told myself that I could eat again as soon as I felt hungry, even it if was before lunch. I will be curious what will happen. I am feeling much more in tune with my body signals ever since I paid attention to taste and I slowed down my eating rate. It confounds me that the simplest changes can be so profound. I have tried to be more mindful so many times and couldn't get comfortable with it, now it seems the most natural way to eat! I wished I had taken my camera to the restaurant last night to take a photo of the meal, but I did capture a trucker playing with his remote car. I laughed, as we all have our diversions out here on the road. -- Posted By i Mouse to Mindful i Mouse at 1/17/2011 06:23:00 AM
