IT RHYMES WITH

DEPRESS

Friday, 15 October 2010

And what is it? It's the word

being used to describe the states of mind of so

many Americans today. And the word I'm speaking of,

which we seem to hear or see all of the time these

days is...stress. Here's the kind of line I

see in a lot of the E-mails I receive lately, ",

I've just got so much stress in my life right now.

It's really hard losing weight when I feel this

way."

Some people wake up in the morning

feeling depressed and are every bit as depressed when

they retire for the evening. I believe that when

you're really stressed out, you're doing damage to

your body. I mean, how many heart attacks do you

think are brought on by stress? I'm sure...quite a

few of them.

There're a few categories of life people stress over.

They stress about their finances, which can lead to

problems with a spouse or even with their kids.

Divorce also causes a great deal of stress. Of

course, the loss of a job or the passing of someone

special in your life can land you in a stressful state

of mind. And those are just the big stresses.

People also get stressed out over

some of the smaller things in life, too. Like when

they get stuck at a traffic light too long when

they're in a hurry. Oh, sometimes you can actually

see the stress in their faces as they get more

and more upset.

Here's where it gets worse. Some

people, when they get stressed, end up

walking straight to the fridge, open the door and dive

into an "eating-fest" to combat the stress. Now if

you were already feeling stressed about your weight

when you opened that refrigerator, aren't you afraid

that by overeating, your weight will only go up more

with those added calories? Yeah, that's what you need

right now, another layer of stress about your

weight...along with everything else you're

dealing with.

When you're stressed out, your brain keeps playing

those stresses over and over in your mind. It's like

that movie Groundhog Day, where the same-old

things keep happening, day-after-day-after-day. No

matter where you are, all you can do is think about

what and/or who is stressing you out. Hey, that's

no good!

You've got to turn off that little "stress tape

recorder" in your mind. Fill your mind with reminders

of the good things happening in your life.

(And I know they're there.) You have to stay focused

on those positive things in order to make yourself

stronger so you can go to work on solving the

stresses in your life. See, when you're thinking

positive, you make more positive decisions.

Also, if you're stressed out, a good night's sleep is

definitely going to help. Be sure and get to bed

early. Put on some soft music, dip a towel into some

cool water and place it over your forehead. And as

the music plays, lull yourself into a good night's

sleep. (And by the way, try to get in eight

hours of sleep, too.)

And you know I have to get an

exercise plug in here. See, when you're sweatin' and

moving that body of yours, you're able to better

handle the stresses in your life. And that's just a

fact!

Now one more thing before I let you go to enjoy this

beautiful Friday, don't isolate yourself. A

lot of stressed-out people tend to do just that. When

you're really stressed, you should be around more

positive people who can help you feel better. You

need that kind of support now more than ever.

So are you feeling stressed-out lately? Well, I'd

like to also suggest you take a tour of our Clubhouse

here on my website. Become a member and get a whole

lot of support from some really wonderful people, my

Clubhouse members. Many of them have dealt with

some of the same stresses you may be going through

right now and...they can help you handle and beat that

stress you're going through in your own life.

Love,
