TO GAIN OR TO

LOSE...

Saturday, 04 December 2010

That is the question. So, how

many time have you lost weight? How many times have

you gained back the weight you lost? And

for how many years have you been doing the whole lose,

gain-back thing with your weight, huh? Oh, my!

That's a lotta years!

I know how you feel. I rode that

weight-loss, weight-gain carousel for many years

myself. But there's a big difference between the

people who lose weight then keep it off and

those people who lose the weight and don't

keep it off.

See, those who keep off the weight they lose do it by

creating new lifestyles for themselves.

Those who're not successful at keeping the weight off,

well...don't bother with making those lifestyle

changes an everyday part of their lives.

I know a lot of people who work

hard to lose weight and, after they do, go right back

to eating the way they did before losing the weight.

And exercise? Oh, they toss their workout

routines and start lying around the house again,

moving their bodies very little at all.

But by doing that, they're missing out on the way to

lose weight and keep it off. See, the new

lifestyle you create for yourself to lose weight

shouldn't be followed "just for a season." You have

to follow it for the rest of your life.

I receive thousands of

E-mails that begin something like this: ",

I've played this weight-loss game for years. What

am I doing wrong? I need to lose 40 pounds...right

now!"

I always write back and discuss the "C" word with

them. And that word would be...Consistency.

You know the story. For instance, It's Monday morning

and you wake up determined to tackle your weight, once

and for all. You begin the day with a healthy bowl of

oatmeal and some fresh fruit. And you feel so good

for having eaten so well. Then, around 12:30 that

afternoon, one of your coworkers brings a deluxe-size

pizza to the office. Right there, you forget how

wonderfully you'd begun your day. And without even

thinking, you swoop in, grabbing a slice, or two,

of that pizza for yourself. No consistency

there.

Or you start the day by promising to be good to your

body by drinking eight glasses of water today. But

you end up having only four glasses of H20 by day's

end. Where's the consistency?

On Thursday, you lace up your walking shoes and head

out the door for your daily walk. But by the time

Saturday rolls around, you have "other plans" and

don't get your walk in. And tell me, what happens

when you're not consistent with your exercise. Well,

nothing....not when it comes to seeing a weight-loss,

that is.

Early in this message, we talked about lifestyle. Now

what is a lifestyle? It's a planned-out way

of living your life. You can plan to live your life

in a healthy way or, you can make no plan at all and

live your life in a most unhealthy way. How

simple is that?

A healthy lifestyle begins with you getting up in the

morning thinking positive thoughts. Like...My new

healthy lifestyle will combine healthy eating with

daily activity. And when you're consistent

with this healthy lifestyle, you end up making changes

in your body, your mind and your emotions.

And how do you stay consistent? Now that's a tough

one but I have the answer for you. Consistency is all

mental. You've got to think your day before

you live your day. Think about how

good you'll feel by staying on program. Think

about the results you'll see, too. That's where

positive affirmations from yourself about

yourself come in.

These are my tricks for staying

consistent. I like the way I look and feel. I like

the fact that I'm at my goal-weight and have so much

energy. And I like the fact that I'm successful with

the way I live.

Now I don't know what time of the day you're reading

this message. But I want you to concentrate on being

consistent today and follow it up with another day of

being consistent tomorrow. Remember, no matter what

holiday it is, no matter whose birthday it is, you

have to be true to your healthy lifestyle. And, you

have to be...consistent!

Love,
