Guest guest
LAST DANCE... Thursday, 30 December 2010 Last dance, for l-o-o-o-v-e! Yes, it's my last chance for ro-mance...tooo-night! (Oh, I just love my vintage Donna Summer!) And oh yes, I'll be putting all of my love into our last dance of the year tonight at Slimmons. I've so enjoyed teaching at my studio for all of these years. 2010 has been a year that included so many new members taking class with us. Who would have thought that after 35 years, I'd still be at Slimmons dancing along with all of my friends? Slimmons became even more popular this year thanks to Face Book and Twitter. When I opened Slimmons 35 years ago, people sometimes came in to celebrate on their birthdays. And they often brought some of their friends along to celebrate with them, in a healthy way! (I love it!) Now, in this new media age, with all of its social networking, even more people are coming in to celebrate. I guess word really gets around on the Internet. LOL. The birthday celebrations have continued at Slimmons and we've had hundreds of people come in, thanks to the Net. We have such a good time celebrating birthdays with our members. The entire class joins in to sing the Happy Birthday song to our honoree. This great friend of mine, doll artist Fisher, makes tiny ' dolls that we give our members celebrating a birthday. That's right, it's a miniature version of me holding this cute little present in my hands. Thank You, , for helping to make birthdays so much fun at Slimmons. Now get this. Young people have really discovered Slimmons this year. I'd say about one-third of my classes are now filled with students between the ages of 16 to 25! Sherri does a great job of managing the club for me. And what can I say about my amazing instructors, Anne, Michele and Helen? Everyone adores them. They each bring their own individual style to the classes they teach, making every class special and full of energy. This year, I began doing theme classes on Saturdays, very similar to the ones we do on the Cruise To Lose. And for those classes, there are now costumes involved. While working out to the new Donna Summer song, To Paris With Love, I actually wore a little Eiffel Tower on my head! (LOL...but I'm serious.) And when our theme was all about Rock 'N Roll, I wore a shredded tank top while "playing" a funky neon-colored guitar. (Hey, I really get into it!) It's so much fun to be extra silly while making everyone laugh...and sweat! Tonight's the big night! We're gonna rock out and dance to some of my favorite songs from 2010. I'm putting together a 2010 "hits list" for tonight's "last dance" so I hope everyone's ready! When I count my blessings, I thank God for giving me Slimmons and letting me be there for all of these years. Today, I'll be thinking about the thousands and thousands of people who've danced with me at my club for the past three-and-a-half decades. And let me tell ya...I'm aiming for a fourth and fifth decade of dancing at Slimmons! If you're ever visiting the Los Angeles area, I hope you'll make Slimmons part of your visit. Hey, maybe it'll even be your birthday! I need you, by me, to guide me, to hold me... Love,
