Guest guest
MEALS Friday, 03 September 2010 How long would you say breakfast, lunch and dinner have been around? Well, since the cave men times, I'm sure! Those cave men and women would get up early in the morning, have some seeds, nuts and plants from the forest to get their day started. Breakfast. After that, they'd be off hunting, inventing new tools for themselves and using the hunting tools they'd invented to capture some meat for their meals. Hey, after just a few hours of doing all that, they'd be ready for another meal...lunch! After all of their work was done and nightfall arrived, they'd be hungry again. So then they'd make themselves dinner. If they were lucky, it may've been something they captured during their very busy day. And during the day, if they got hungry between meals, they might pick some berries from a bush in the woods and have themselves a little snack. Now I know you've seen illustrations of cave men and probably even a documentary about the way they lived, maybe on The Learning Channel. But let me ask you something, do you ever see illustrations of an obese cave man or cave woman? They were always so fit and in good shape because they used and moved their bodies a lot. Plus...they ate healthy, too! (There were no Hostess Twinkies to snack on back then ya' know.) Being a "professional dieter," I've played around a lot with my meals and snacks. Sometimes I'd have no snacks and skip a meal. I might get up, have breakfast and not eat all day until it was time for dinner. Later, I began eating just one meal a day in the afternoon. Then there were the times I got really crazy, skip all of my meals and have only snacks all day! It should come as no surprise that none of these methods worked for me. Oh, I did lose weight, sure...but I also lost my health, right along with the weight. And let me tell you, it really is one big bummer to lose your health. There're so many things you used to take for granted but can no longer do as your health deteriorates. And that's no good at all, is it? That's why it's so important to treat your body in a healthy way. When you wake up in the morning, you've got to eat something. And it's got to be a combination of foods that're going to give your body energy in the morning. Yesterday for breakfast, I had fat-free cottage cheese mixed with slices of papaya. I also had a slice of whole wheat toast plus my water and vitamins. It was delicious and I felt a little oomph after enjoying that healthy breakfast. The next meal is just an important and I'm talking about lunch. You need to replenish the nutrients your body has burned off since breakfast. Think of it as putting gas in your car. (Hey, just like your car...you can't run on empty!) Yesterday for lunch, I had a salad with romaine lettuce, purple cabbage, cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, baby mushrooms and a vinaigrette dressing. It was an unbelievable lunch and I felt so good after eating it. Next came my third meal of the day, good-old dinner. (You'll be a winner if you eat a healthy dinner.) I had a turkey burger, steamed squash and zucchini mixed with whole wheat penne pasta. I loved every bite of it! During the day, for snacks, I had fresh fruit and vegetables. And by the end of the day, I was very happy with the way I'd eaten. And how was I rewarded, besides feeling good about how well I'd eaten? Well, I got a good night's peaceful sleep instead of being restless all night with a belly stuffed full of the wrong foods. Ahhhhh! Okay, plan your meals and snacks today to see those numbers on your scale move the right way...down! Love,
