It was my goal to hit 21 million steps logged this year.

2010 steps = 4,504,653

TOTAL = 19,730,181

.... that's a little short of my 2010 goal (only by 3500 steps per day) but you know what, it's ok! You have to remember there were a lot of days I couldn't do much of any exercise.

So. My 2011 goal is to get to 25.5 million steps logged. I need *almost* 16000 steps per day.

I know it's just numbers and it doesn't really matter if I hit the goals but I have to keep going or the alternate is not good.

I remember when I started tracking them I was so sedentery that I did not think it would be possible to get 1 million steps in a year.

Do you remember that too? That is less than 3000 steps per day and I didn't think it was possible LOL!! Now my goal for 2011 will

put me at about 5.8 million steps for that year alone... wow!

I know I am at a net gain for 2010 and I don't care about that either really. What can I do about it at this point?

In 2011, I do want to get closer to my goal and I know I will get there. I want to lose at least 60 lbs this next year, which is "only" 5 lbs a month and I know that is very feasible.

So there you go, two of my goals for 2011

DS18 has headed out for his New Year's Eve bash at a friends house. They're staying the night so the kids don't have to drive home in the middle of the night with folks that have been drinking. The roads are very slick today, so he'll call or text me when he gets there I hope.

They got grandma checked into the nursing facility. I'll try to get over there tomorrow to visit. I wanted to go today, but I also needed to get the berm dug out before the boulders froze and I knew they would need to get her checked in and settled so after a night in the hospital, she wouldn't need a lot more chaos.

Right now, I am baking banana bread so the house smells delish! It just worked out that a handful of bananas died this week, so I saved them and dug out the ingredients to put it together tonight. Watching my program on HBO and staying warm. It's around 5F right now and the low overnight is supposed to be -5F I think, so down another 10 degrees... brrrrr!

In closing, I will share a couple of pictures from our weather this week:

.... pretty cool huh (no pun intended!)

It really is quite the winter wonderland and very pretty. Just keep it off my streets LOL!

Have a great evening, day tomorrow and weekend...

,Cool pictures. Looks/sounds like MN weather! :-)These past 2 months have been terrible for me with taking time to exercise and also of overindulging on the treats, etc. (Well, in reality I have progressively gotten worse the past 2 years.)On December 26th, I vowed to myself that I would get back to "doing something." So, I pulled out my husband's snow shoes and snowshoed a few days this week. (I am on break from work.) The last two days it has been too cold and rainy/icy, I went on the treadmill and used the exercise ball. I NEED to exercise each day. I like your idea about a million steps in a year goal. I got out my calculator and decided to see what I could make as a goal. I know the goal is over 10,000 steps a day, but

it really isn't realistic for me, since some of my exercise wouldn't clock on a pedometer. So, I decided on a 2.5million goal. That would be a little over 6,800 steps a day average. I think I could reach that goal. Now, I have to get in the habit of wearing my pedometer or carrying my ipod with me at all times. My eating is another huge issue for me, but I think for me, I need to focus on the exercise first and then my hope is I will feel like not eating all the junk, if I am exercising. My goal is to lose the 40 pounds I have regained since I got married in 2007! I will be happy if I just get back in the habit of exercising 5 days a week, though. I really don't have issues during the spring and fall I go on regular 2-3 mile walks daily ... My problems are the heat of the summer and the snow/cold of the winter. apmleehere@...From: "ABrite@..." <ABrite@...>ABrite@...Sent: Fri, December 31, 2010 9:27:59 PMSubject: 2010 steps logged/2011 goals

I did the steps thing a few years ago. I think you have a wonderful plan for that. Do you also have an eating plan too? I worked on trying for 5 pounds a month too, but did not always succeed in it, no matter how well I did. Perhaps your walking will help get you to your goals. I will be more active once I get to Hawaii, so I am hoping I can take daily walks with the baby and maybe even invest in some weights, as I love lifting.

I think you have a wonderful plan for that. Do you also have an eating plan too?

Eat less, move more...? LOL!! I used to "do" Thin Within, which is a Christian version of your mindful eating, with Bible studies, etc.... not sure what happened with that, moved on to flying by the seat of my own pants again, gave WW a go, then got bored or tired of counting the points, etc.... did my own thing again... did the nutritionist-thing for awhile.... what it comes down to, is "it works, while you do it" LOL!! We've heard that before, everything I have "done" or "tried to do" works while I am doing it and then when I think I can just not do a specific thing, I start gaining weight.

So, right now, I am using the software program at The Daily Plate and paying attention to the calories in/out again and aiming for almost-16000 steps per day as my goal. It seems like a lofty goal, but really it's not. I can get 5000-6000 at work, depending on how many times I have to go to the break room to look at the vending machines, restroom, printer/fax machines.... so to do 10000 of structured exercise/walking, that's about what "they" recommend daily.

Come Monday (tomorrow) I will reprogram my printer/faxes to go to a further machine again and instead of sitting on my tush at breaks/lunch, go for a small stroll. That may be weather permitting, because it's really darned cold here right now. Yesterday's high was 15 F (supposedly) with the overnight lows in the sub-zeros... Tues/Wed/Thurs this week it's supposed to warm up to the balmy mid-to-high 20s as highs and snow (gasp!) but we're only predicted for 6" this week.... so far....

Oh yeah, I promised totals for SNOWkane's snowfall this year/season so far:

November 2010: 25.9 inches

December 2010: 17.4 inches

.... so that's a total so far this winter season of 43.3 inches. We're 2 inches shy of a "normal season so far total" according to the weather guy.

January "normal" snowfall is in the 12.3 range, Feb is 7.9, March is 2.8 and April .8 so if we get the normals for the rest of the typically snowy months, we'll be sitting at 67.1 inches this year. Thank God we won't get over 90-100 inches like 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 winters! I cannot remember how much we got last winter, but it was "nothing" compared to those two winters....

DS18 is doing great getting around in the snow this winter. I was concerned because I purposefully put him in the winter driver's ed program last year with the 9-1-1 Driving School (police officers teach it) and we had no snow those 8 weeks! So this winter, I gave him tips, he ventured out, I give him more tips, he ventures out. I think I have been with him once since it's snowed LOL!!

Anyway... there ya have it, what "I'm doing" LOL!

That's what it all boils down to. ANY weight loss diet will work as

long as you work it, whether it's low carb, high starch, or plain

old calorie counting. The "move more" is useful not just for cardiac

health and keeping your joints lubricated, but the more you work

your muscles the more they grow, and muscles burn calories at a

faster rate than other tissue, especially fat.

>I used to "do" Thin Within, which

Well that's a very simplified answer. They also insist you stop

eating when still hungry, a 5 out of 10, and don't eat until your

hunger hits a zero. One of the mods on the official forums

http://www.thinwithin.org/forums

had to modify her program a while back because she let herself get

way too thin, eating less than 500 calories some days. She blames it

on using her own will, not God's, at mealtimes. A food plan like TW

has triggered eating disorders in many people. Right now I'm one of

the mods on the unofficial TW group:

thin_within_support/

Over 200 members and hardly any posts.

The eating philosophy is also similar to the Japanese one of "hari

hatchi bu" where you eat anything you want but only until 80% full.

I could never follow either plan - I do get crazy if I get too

hungry, and often have hypoglycemia episodes.

> We've heard that before, everything I have "done" or "tried

to do" works while I am doing it and then when I think I can just

not do a specific thing, I start gaining weight.

The story of my life. At least my doc is now blaming it on my

thyroid and Vitamin D deficiency and not assuming I was cheating

on my food and exercise logs all these years.

again

A lot of people like SparkPeople, too, the on-line program (free)

http://www.sparkpeople.com/

When my doc had me try it back in 2009 I wound up gaining

weight eating their recommended calorie level. Same thing happened

when I used the Foodmover at the calorie level he

recommended for my weight. Way too many calories for my flaccid old

body. LOL

I am getting a bit confused on who said what in this post, lol...but I am interested in the eating less parts. It was very touch and go for me to learn to eat less, but I had to in order to lose weight. Once I got use to it and changed how I thought about it, I discovered I liked how it felt. I am not talking about starving or anorexic behaviors, but simply feeling hungry before a meal and not full after eating, sort of a neutral feeling, neither hungry or full, but satisfied. It’s a very elusive feeling, one that took me a year to grasp and know it. Both in September and in December, when I struggled with resurfacing binge behavior, I actually missed feeling hungry. Weird, I know. My body felt saturated and heavy when I ate more than a small amount, it was unpleasant. I wondered a few times at what point I my life that I stopped eating just enough and ate to the point of discomfort and thought it was alright?

Learning to stop eating at the right time is quite an experience. It takes a lot of fine tuning and paying attention. But the rewards are so wonderful. The astounding thing is, that the stomach and the body does adjust to a smaller intake over time. Just thinking out loud.
