HONEST ABE

Saturday, 12 February 2011

One of my favorite subjects in

school was history. I especially loved to learn about

the past Presidents of our great United States. My

favorite President would have to be Abraham Lincoln.

And you know what today is, don't you? Why, it's

Abraham Lincoln's birthday!

I just loved everything about

President Lincoln, especially his nickname...Honest

Abe. I mean, if you think about it, he even

looked honest, dontcha think? With that big

old stove-top hat, that handsome beard and his

piercing eyes, I could just see the honesty in those

old photos of him. You may not know this but even

when he was growing up, Abe was already building his

reputation for honesty. In fact, that's how he ended

up with his nickname.

When he was a young man, one of his first jobs was

working as a clerk in one of those old-fashioned

general stores of his time. One day, a lady came in

and purchased a few items. After she'd left, Abe

realized that he hadn't given the woman enough change

back from her purchase. And do you know what he did?

After the store closed, he walked for miles so he

could return to the lady the extra change he owed

her. Boy, talk about honest! (I wonder how

many store clerks would do that today? LOL.)

Later in life, when Honest Abe

became President Abraham Lincoln, his honesty

continued to shine. He also had a genuine love for

all people and that honesty he developed earlier in

life, helped shaped the legacy of his presidency.

Today, I'd like to see us all take a lesson from

Honest Abe. And I mean...especially when it

comes to our weight-loss!

See, you have to be honest about the foods you eat.

When I teach people my FoodMover program, I explain to

them the value each window has for the foods they eat

each day. For example, if you're having a

medium-sized apple, it'll cost you one fruit window on

the FoodMover. But if you're eating a large

apple and you're closing only one fruit

window, then you're not being so honest. That larger

apple will cost you two windows. Likewise,

if you're having a small baked potato, you would have

to close one starch window on the FoodMover. But if

it's one of those great-big Idaho spuds,

you get the picture, don't you? That's right, you

have to close two or maybe even three starch windows,

depending on the size of that potato. Remember, when

you're honest about what you eat...you'll see a

weight-loss!

And let me ask you this...Are you

honest with yourself when it comes to your exercise?

If you're working out only a few minutes a day, let's

be honest, you're not going to see the results you

want to see. And when you promise yourself to

exercise today...do it! And be sure to set

aside the right amount of time to devote to

your workout. (Not just a few minutes!)

We all make promises to ourselves. But are you honest

when it comes to keeping those promises?

That's why I suggest you write down the promises you

make to yourself. That way, you can review your list,

from time-to-time, to be sure you're making the

promises you made to yourself a...reality.

Just like President Lincoln, I think one of the

greatest qualities anyone can have is to be

honest, not only with others but...with themselves.

We've all told a little white lie or a fib in our

lives and hey, they never got us anywhere, did they?

But so many people are such bad liars.

LOL. I mean, you can see right through their lies by

looking into their eyes.

Abraham Lincoln believed that

honesty was the best policy and...so do I! I

want you to have an honest and healthy day on

this Saturday, Mr. Lincoln's birthday. And I wish you

could be with us at Slimmons today so we could all

have one good old-fashioned honest workout

together!

Love,
