[The Little Bowl] Working It

Had a bit of gastric distress early in the morning from the rice crackers the day before. I waited until I felt hungry to eat breakfast. Afterwards, I felt good. I was glad my daughter had made herself some eggs and sausages, it was just what I wanted. 1. 2 eggs, 2 pork sausages, orange green tea. 2. whipped cream with chocolate syrup drizzle. Today I am determined to cut my number of bowls down today without trying to set a number. The point is to pay attention to hunger and to desire and find a balance that feels right. I want to move away from counting if I can. I want to stay focused on the what I want and need and stop the restrictive behavior of having off limits foods or stop eating because of the calorie count. The whip cream was the last of the big bowl my daughter made. After yesterday’s experience of eating foods i did not want in order to have a food i did want, I realized i need to honor my desires as well as my health. I love whipped cream, especially unsweetened. Luckily, my daughter did not sweeten the whipped cream with more than a sprinkle of sugar. So, instead of fighting it, I had the last bit and enjoyed each bite. 3. pizza (one slice cut in half to fit the bowl), diet pepsi 4. 3 slices canadian bacon, broccoli, butter 1/2 small potato boat, one whiskey (the last of the bottle) 5. broccoli, butter Total food came to exactly 4 1/2 cups of food. Ah for the broccoli! I had to cook dinner for my youngest and myself, so he wanted potato boats (he chose the smallest potatoes in the bag) and I found some fresh broccoli and I heated up some leftover canadian bacon. What a fabulous dinner! I had to have a second bowl of broccoli, but I have to admit, I was stuffed after eating the second bowl and I thought to myself that it is not how I want to feel. I must continually remind myself not to justify eating more because of elusive reasons such as “it’s healthyâ€. My hunger and fullness cues need to be my ultimate guide, not my reasoning. I found a perfect bowl to use on the flight back to the mainland. It has three sections around a removable cup in the center that has a snap on lid. The bowl lid has a ring that can be frozen to provide cooling. I don’t need the cooling ring ( and probably won’t pass the 3 oz liquid restriction) but I liked that I could put three meals and a snack in this container and stay on my plan. I measured the side sections and they hole 1 cup with about 1/2 inch remaining around the top. Perfect! I have some dried veggies, dried coconut strips to add to the bowl and a piece of summer sausage, I will hunt down some nuts and something fresh to add. I will need enough for for 11 or so hours. I am very pleased with today’s choices, I had what I wanted out of the selection of food available. I especially liked the whipped cream and the broccoli, those were my favorites of the day. what was not good was the pizza, it was reheated homemade, but frozen pizza with very little cheese, artichoke hearts and green pepper. It had little flavor. I am still working through my fears of not knowing the calorie count, so until I feel more confident, I will add the number of items so that I could work out the calories if I find I need to. I do better when I feel comfortable with major changes. I think I will make a positive comment on the choices, and compare it to the least favored selection so that I stay aware of how the food not only affects my body but my sense of wellbeing too. Eating is not always about nutrition, it is about pleasure too. That aspect is rarely a part of a calorie counting diet. I also noticed that my wedding ring is loose today. No bloat or fluid retention at all. Perfect. --
