Guest guest
"I'M STARVING!" Friday, 11 February 2011 Oh, you've sat there at the dining room table before and heard someone exclaim..."I'm starving!" (Hey, maybe it was even you! LOL.) But the truth is, people who make that statement usually aren't really starving. Come on, they're more like just plain hungry. I'm starving is simply an expression many of us make when we're ready for our next meal. But I have to tell you, there are millions of Americans who really are just about starving themselves in order to lose weight. Here's how they think: They believe that eating too much food over the years is the reason they're obese. (And yes, that's true.) But here's where they mess up. They assume that the logical thing to do now, in order to lose the weight is to...starve themselves. In fact, I used to believe just that when I began dieting. As most of you know, the first time I lost a large amount of weight, I did it my literally starving myself. I convinced myself that starvation was the only way for me to get down to a slimmer size. I felt food had been my "enemy" for so many years and made me the way I was...obese! So I turned food into something that had to be avoided. I mean, sometimes I would just look at some foods and just about get sick. Oh, I can't eat that. It'll only make me fatter! So one day, I came up with the "brilliant" idea that I simply wasn't going to eat...at all! I drank water and ate lettuce all day long for two-and-a-half months. And boy, did I ever lose weight! But wait, in the process, I also lost something else...my health. After getting down to 119 pounds, let's just say that I wasn't looking so good. But in my own mind, I'd convinced myself that I looked fabulous! By starving my body, yes I did lose weight but...I also got very sick! How foolish was that, huh? And how foolish are those people following in my footsteps? One of the reasons I created Deal-A-Meal and later, my FoodMover, was so I could learn more and become wiser about the six major food groups. Plus, they taught me the importance of portion control. Sometimes, people write and tell me exactly what they're eating on a daily basis. When I add up their calories, I'm often shocked to see that they're consuming only about 500 calories a day...or less. Now, that truly is starvation! And, believe me, it's not the way to lose weight and get healthy. Before you even begin a weight-loss program, you have to look at the amount of food you should be eating on a daily basis. And when you're eating the right foods in the proper portions, you will lose weight and, at the same time, protect your health. Here are some facts I want you to remember. You need to eat fruit everyday. You've go to get your vegetables in everyday, too. Your body is made up of protein so you have to work enough protein into your daily food plan. I know a lot of people are afraid of carbohydrates but please, don't be. They won't hurt you. You just shouldn't overdo it with the carbohydrates. Your body also loves "smart" fats, I'm talking about fats like avocados, vegetable and olive oils. And when it comes to your dairy consumption, choose low-fat or non-fat dairy products. If you eat all of these foods in the right size portions, you won't be starving. But you will lose weight and get healthier, too! And remember, you can't eat like this for just one day. Oh, no...you've got to eat like this everyday! If you follow my advice, you'll see a weight-loss every single month. So if you've been one of those people who has limited your calories way too much, get yourself a FoodMover and learn how to eat...properly! Okay, no more starving! Promise me that, okay? I want to see you here on this earth, happy and healthy...for a long, long time. Love,
