I have degenerative disc disease and now and then they pinch some nerves, causing pains in the back and elsewhere. For about a week now my entire right side has been hurting and muscles have been twitching. Don't ask me to twist or turn fast or the pain will bring me to my knees! Doing those feet-pounding Sansone videos has been out of the question so for the past week it's been back to some of the gentler, slower videos, like his and the Silver Foxes, Sweatin' to the Oldies (with modified movements), and the original Blast Off. Doing these along with slow qigong movements have helped a bit and today I could actually walk upright when I got out of bed this morning. >And you know what happens when you're not moving your body as much because of the pain? Well, you end up with a weight-gain! Not only that, but if you don't move you get even stiffer. Even if all you can do are gentle stretches, you've got to move, even when in pain. The first morning I got this thing all I could manage were some qigong and 's Stretchin' to the Classics. >I have a DVD available in my Clubhouse Store called SIT TIGHT. I am so proud of this workout. The entire class is taught from a chair, from a seated position. I'm not a fan of his 2 videos for the handicapped, this one and Reach for Fitness from the 1980's. A lot of twisting and bending movements that aggravate a bad back. >Before I go, please remember to consult your physician before beginning a dedicated exercise program, especially if you'll be new to working out. My (thin) doc is still telling me I should be jogging, even though he himself blew his knees out years ago doing just that. A better choice would be a physical therapist, but sadly a lot of insurance companies won't cover the cost if it's not ordered by your primary care doc and is for a specific allowable diagnosis. My insurance won't cover it for arthritis or most back conditions, so I'm out of luck there, unless I want to pay out of pocket, and that's not gonna happen!
