I'm 45 years old and still trying to relearn what has been drummed into me.

My brothers drank water from hose outside. My mother kept me inside making cookies for the boys. "Here take them out cool - aide and cookies, they will love ya".

We always had chips, cookies and two container of ice cream in the house, and everyday another bottle of soda would be in the refrigerator for after school.

My mother was around 130# my whole life, my father 300#.

"You are built just like your father"

"You should hang out with more often, she makes you look small." I was a size 10 - 12, was a size 16. We were 15 years old.

My mother had one egg, one whole wheat toast, a small glass of orange juice every morning. On the weekends, two half slices of bacon with it.

My Dad and us kids either had sugar filled cereal and whole milk or the oven would be filled with french toast or stack of pancakes loaded with butter and syrup and a huge pan of bacon. "You guys can eat when your ready"

My school lunch when packed in middle school always had a pudding in it, everyday. My lunch in highschool was buffet, which everyday had burger, fries, pizza and milk shakes.

Moms dinner plate had nothing that touched, small amounts of everything and sometimes I remember a half pear with a scoop of cottage cheese. While we had big tray of meat and big bowls of buffet style potatoes, gravy and a little veggies. After dinner Mom would stand up, grab the plates and annouce what the types of desserts were in the house.

I'm not built like my father. My mother made us look like each other.

Food is Love....so it seemed back then.

So now I know. Stay outside and play, drink from the hose. Protein, fruits and veggies makes a well rounded meal not a well rounded body. Burgers, fries, pizza and milkshakes are NOT for everyday! Don't buffet. Desserts should not come in a list and not everyday and NOT IN BIG BOWLS.
