Guest guest
I'M IN CHICAGO! Thursday, 07 October 2010 What an interesting city, Chicago. The architecture here is simply magnificent. And why, you ask...why am I here in the Windy City? Well, I'm appearing at the big Club Industry 2010 Convention. It's the annual meeting for professionals in the fitness world. There will be managers of health clubs attending from all over the United States. They get together each year to talk about their industry and share ideas on how to keep their clients healthy and their memberships growing. As you're surely aware, businesses today are suffering pretty badly as a result of this recession that's still going on in our country. So I'm here in Chicago to meet all of the managers, share a few of my own ideas with them and, of course, to make them all sweat a little, too! I'm really excited to meet all of these men and women who've dedicated their lives to helping people get fit. And I'm so honored they choose me as their keynote speaker. Well, you know I'm going to put on some really hot music to get them out of their seats and dancing with me for a little while. I think I'll make them move to Dancing in the Streets, Disco Inferno and at least one Lady Gaga number. LOL. After we all move around to a few numbers, I'll give my speech. Oh, I don't have it written down. I'm just going to share my own life's story with them and talk about how I, myself, got started in the fitness world. I'll share my ideas with them and tell them how I've kept Slimmons successful for the past 35 years. I'll tell them about the early days at Slimmons and all that I've learned during the past three-and-a-half decades running my club. And I'll share the fun I have preaching the importance of fitness to people all over the country. The most important thing I've learned over the years is that being fit has got to be fun! Oh, it's not enough just making everyone sweat. You've gotta make them smile, too. See, when the instructor is having fun, then everyone in the class is going to have fun. Another thing I've learned is that good music can help motivate you to move and sweat. That's why I sometimes spend hours listening to music just to get the right mix of songs for one of my classes. I love when everyone is sweating and singing along to the songs I play. Because when you're singing and sweating, believe me, you burn more calories. After my speech, I'll spend a little quality time meeting all of the conventioneers. (That's always fun for me.) Hey, I'll probably even learn a few things from listening to them. After my good-byes, I'll head to the airport for my flight home to Los Angeles. And hey, by the way, if you're near Slimmons on Saturday, I'll be teaching a motivational class at 10:30AM followed by a very special aerobics class at 11:15AM. I'd love to see you there. And even if you're not near Slimmons and can't make it, you be sure to take good care of yourself and move that body of yours today. Okay?
