PASS THE

LITTLE DEBBIE SNACK CAKES!

Sunday, 12 December 2010

There was recently a story in the

news about someone who went on...some kind of a

diet! And I mean a diet you're not going to

believe. See, this man, a professor from Kansas State

University was looking to prove a theory he had about

weight loss. He wanted to prove he could lose weight

while eating nothing but junk foods. (Oh,

there ya' go!) But seriously, his little experiment

came to be called...The Junk Food Diet.

Of course, when most people are working to lose

weight, they try to stay away from the junk

foods. But hey, not this "Nutty Professor." LOL. He

decided to go on a 1600 calorie-a-day weight-loss

program but get a load of what the professor was

eating. Chocolate-covered snacks, Little

Debbie-style cream-filled snack cakes, sugary

cereals, cookies and potato chips. (I can't

imagine living and eating like that.) Now remember,

he was eating all of those fattening, sugary foods but

limiting himself to just 1600 calories a day of them.

And sure enough, in ten weeks, he'd lost 27 pounds.

Now at first-glance, you may think this kind of diet

sounds just fabulous. Me? I think it

sounds just horrible and you know how

unhealthy it must be! I mean, for ten weeks, the

professor lived only on highly processed foods, loaded

with sugar, salt and grease.

Now seriously, why would anyone want to eat like

that? Do any of the foods I talked about, the ones

the professor lived on for 10 weeks, do any of them

have the vitamins and nutrients your body has to have

everyday? Was he getting enough fiber eating this

way? Oh come on, how could he have been? And he

ate like that for ten weeks. Why do this to your

body?

Did any of you ever see that

movie, Fast Food Nation? It's about a man,

working to take a closer look at how we Americans

eat. And since fast food restaurants is where we eat...a

lot, he decided to eat, exclusively, at fast

food places for for a period of time. And by the way,

he did gain weight. (Are you surprised?)

As far as the professor goes, a better name for his

regime is not the Junk Food Diet but more

like the Body Abuse Diet. Because, let's

face it, that's exactly what he was doing, abusing his

body. Not only was he not giving his body

the foods it needs, he was putting into his body loads

of foods it didn't need! Some way to live,

huh? Now to me...that's abuse!

In 1981, I wrote a book called the

Never Say Diet Book. In it, I taught

that you should never "diet." But that you should...LIVE-IT!

By that, I meant you should be giving your body the best

of the best from all six of the major food

groups. You should be eating fruits, vegetables,

proteins, fats, starches and dairy everyday...in

the right-side portions.

Now tell me, are you on some silly

diet right now trying to lose weight during the

holidays? Well, if you are, you'd just better cut it

out! You need to cut out the junk foods. Cut out the

sweets, fattening foods and those holiday treats.

That is, if you want to see a weight-loss by the end

of this year.

I wonder if that professor from Kansas State has come

to his senses and stopped eating all of those junk

foods. (I hope so.) And in the meantime, you

remember that Little Debbie, although she may be cute,

will make your body anything but little!

Love,
