THE FABULOUS

FREEBIES!

Monday, 15 November 2010

Did you lose weight last week?

And did you lose weight the week before last

week? Have you been consistent with your weight-loss,

losing somewhere between 4-7 pounds a month? If

you're not having that kind of success, it probably

means you're not watching your portions and may not be

working out enough.

Today, we're going to concentrate

on food portions. I created my FoodMover

to help teach you about portion control. And I've

talked to you about the FoodMover many times. I'm

hoping that today you will pay closer attention to my

talk about the portion sizes of the foods you eat.

You have to remember that most of us, when we were

growing up, didn't watch our portions. At dinner

time, there were big serving bowls of food placed in

the middle of the table and we just, well, dug

in! I mean, c'mon, your mother never took out

the measuring cup to make sure she was putting only a

half-cup of mashed potatoes on your plate.

And, left to serving yourself at the dinner table, how

many times did you go back for seconds...or even

thirds?

The FoodMover teaches you how to eat the right size

portions from all six of the major food groups. Those

six food groups are dairy, proteins, starches, fruits,

vegetables and fats. (No, cheesecake is not a

food group!) And when you make it a practice of

eating the right portions from those six food groups,

you will begin to lose weight as you teach yourself

better heating habits.

Now let me tell you about me. See, I'm what you'd

call a volume eater. Oh, I used to like

having the food piled so high on my plate that it

looked like a mini-Mt. Everest! And in many ways, I'm

still a volume eater. It's just that what I'm

eating in volume has changed.

For instance, you know I'm a salad

lover. And those salads help silence that hungry

voice inside my head. When you get

your FoodMover and look through the Exchange

Guide that comes with it, you'll see on page 22 a list

of vegetables that are totally free. That

means you can have as much of them as you like. Not

only are these freebie veggies great in salads but

they're perfect for your stir fry dishes, too.

All lettuces, including romaine, Boston, arugala and

even spinach are...free. So right there is the base

for a great tasting, high-volume big salad.

Now let's talk about some of the other vegetables you

can have in volume for free. Alfalfa sprouts, bean

sprouts, cabbage, celery, cucumbers, mushrooms, and

zucchini are all free. You don't have to close any

of your FoodMover windows when you have those veggies.

Over the weekend, I made a chicken stir fry. I put a

little sesame oil into my wok and after the oil was

hot, sautéed some cut up chicken tenders. I then

added slices of zucchini, mushrooms, shredded cabbage

and bean sprouts. After my dish was finished, I

served it over a half-cup of whole wheat pasta. And

I've gotta tell you, there was a mound of

food on my plate. But think about it, what did I

eat? Well, five grams of sesame oil and four ounces

of chicken. That's it. Everything else was

free! (So now you can see what makes those

freebies so fabulous!)

Most of you out there don't eat

enough vegetables. I don't know, maybe you had a bad

experience with them when you were a kid. Or maybe

your mother cooked them for so long they didn't even

look like vegetables by the time they made it to your

plate. But hey, that's your past. I'm here to tell

you that eating plenty of vegetables has got to be a

part of your future. That is, if you want to lose and

keep off the weight. So-o-o-...

....Get to know those fabulous freebies!
