Guest guest
"L" DAYS Friday, 23 July 2010 Oh I know, you're not going to like this "L" word today. That's because today, "L" stands for...lazy! But please, don't stop reading. (You're going to end up liking today's message...I promise!) No one likes the word "lazy". I think it's one of the most unpleasant things you can call someone. But, truth is, summer comes along and a lot of people get kinda lazy. Oh! It's too hot to do anything but load up a tray with snacks, take a comfortable seat in your La-Z-Boy and watch TV.Ahhhhh, there's just something about taking a seat in an air conditioned room when it's hot outside. You turn down the thermostat and the room gets so frosty, you feel like you're sitting in a meat locker! Oh wait, there's Rocky Balboa beating up a porterhouse steak! And when it's really hot, you certainly don't feel like exercising or going into the kitchen, turning on the stove and cooking, right? But you know what happens when you get lazy with your workouts. Your body gets crazy and wants to fall apart on you...just like that water heater I mentioned! Now let me tell you, it's been s-o-o-o hot lately, here in Los Angeles. But I don't let the heat stop me from getting in my workouts, no matter what the reading is on the thermometer. When the days get hot like this, I do my workouts in the morning. I open the windows in my gym to let in some fresh morning air then get this body of mine moving and sweatin'! I want you to remember why it's so important to get your exercise in everyday. Exercise burns lots of calories while adding life and energy to your body and mind. I'm telling you, I feel so happy after teaching class at Slimmons, I feel like I could take wings and just about fly back home! As I mentioned earlier, when it's this hot, a lot of people aren't going into their kitchens to prepare a meal over a hot stove. So what do they do? Well, they leave their air conditioned homes, jump into their air conditioned SUVs and head straight for a fast food drive-thru window."Hmmm, what shall I have today? Should I go to Popeye's for a fried chicken filet, cole slaw and a buttermilk biscuit? Or I wonder what special deals they have at Mcs this week?" After their drive-thru errand, they bring home their fast food bounty, take a seat in their La-Z-Boys, (air conditioners on full blast), and...eat! So what have I told you about eating all of those processed foods? They're too salty, sweet and greasy, for starters. And worse is that they clog your arteries, otherwise abuse your body and...put weight on your body, too! And tell me, how will you feel at summer's end when you step on the scale and see that you've gained 10-15 pounds? Well, I know you'd be very upset, right? Then you'll start beating yourself up and asking why you've spent the summer treating your body this way. But hey, summer's not over, you've got over a month left. Now here's what you have to do. Get back on program and stop letting your bones go all lazy on you. The weather should not dictate your lifestyle. Rain, sleet, snow or yes, sunshine, you've still got to take good care of yourself. Prepare your meals in the morning when it's cooler. The same goes for your workouts. Try to get them in as early in the morning as possible so you can beat that afternoon heat. (Like I do.) If you stay on program the rest of the summer, you can lose another 5-8 pounds before fall...falls on us. And oh, by the way, get that La-Z-Y Boy out of your living room!Love,
