Guest guest
SUMMER CLEANING Monday, 26 July 2010 Have you cleaned your house this summer? For starters, did you go through your bedroom closets, remove the clothes that no longer fit, fold and donate them to the Salvation Army? Did you go through the cabinets in your bathroom and remove everything so you could give the insides of those cabinets a good, thorough cleaning? Did you throw out all of the things hidden in the back of those cabinets that you don't need anymore? And what about your home entertainment? Did you look through your collection of CDs and DVDs, to make sure they were all straightened, arranged neatly and in their correct packaging?Okay, now let's move on to your kitchen. Do you know what's in every one of the drawers in your kitchen? No? Well, let's go through them all today. There's probably a lot of things in those drawers that you no longer need. But first, is your spice rack very near to or even over your stove? Not a good place for those spices, baby! See, the heat from the stove causes your spices to lose their flavor. And by the way, if you haven't used some of those spices in a long time, it's time to replace them. If you keep them too long, again, the flavors aren't as good anymore. Now which of those kitchen cabinets store your canned goods? And how long have some of them been in there? On the bottom of those cans or on the labels, you'll often find the product's expiration date. Throw out those cans of food that are outdated and, please...don't give them to anyone. (Hey, they could get sick and die!)And what's in your freezer? Some frozen foods have expiration dates on the packaging, too. If some of your freezer's foods are expired, then they've gotta go. Hey, you don't want those expired foods hanging out in your tummy!Today's Monday. I know that many of you have been on program for a while and will continue to do well. But maybe you're one of those who slipped up over the weekend. "Oh, I'll have just a few more of those nachos and dip. They won't hurt!" Well, you know what happens when you tack on a few extra calories here and a few more there...you gain weight! And maybe today on this Monday, you're starting back on program after a slip-up. (A little relapse there, huh?) Well, please pay attention. If there're only healthy foods in your kitchen, it's going to be a lot easier for you to stay on your healthy eating program. I want you to clean your kitchen and throw out all of the highly processed snack foods that're calling your name. Toss them into the garbage or down your sink's garbage disposal and hit the ON switch. And when you hear those snack foods whirling away down the sink, just think of all those calories going where they need to go. Not into your stomach but...down the drain! Hey, when it comes to losing weight, let your kitchen be your best friend! Okay, now I'd better go because it sounds like you've got some serious summer cleaning to get done!Love,
