GARAGE SALE

Tuesday, 06 July 2010

When I'm driving around Los Angeles, you know what I see a lot of, especially on the weekends? Garage sales! Oh yes, Americans love to have a garage sale and just as many Americans love to take one in.

If you've ever had one, you know how it is. You go through your house or yes, even your garage and pull out things you haven't used in a long time or figure you no longer need. It can be anything from dishes, to an old small kitchen appliance to clothing. But at just about every garage sale I pass, it never fails. There's one item I see for sale at just about every one of them. I'm talking about a piece of exercise equipment.Oh yes, tucked between those racks of old clothes and toys your kids no longer plays with is a treadmill, an elliptical or a stationary bike. (Sometimes I'll even spot some of my workout DVDs in one of those garage sales!) I'm sure those pieces of exercise equipment were all purchased with the best of intentions. For instance, the lady who bought that new treadmill said to herself as she purchased it, "I promise, I'm going to walk on this treadmill everyday when I get in from work!"

And you know what? She meant it. But oh, those original grand plans too-often fall by the wayside. When a lot of people get in from work, they're so tired that the only thing they really want to see or taste is...dinner!And what about you? Do you have a piece of exercise equipment you bought long ago that you don't use anymore or maybe even never used? Do you have a collection of my DVDs collecting dust in your house...the cellophane never even removed from the covers? Yeah? And, excuse me, you wonder why you're not losing weight?Look, in order to get those pounds moving off your body, you've got to get that body of yours moving, too. If you have a piece of exercise equipment in your house, get to work using it! Start out slow, working out for 15 minutes a day, or so, those first few days but build from there. Soon, you'll be able to do 30 minutes and as you continue, you'll shake that "rust" from your body, build your stamina and before you know it, you'll be doing a full hour each day.A lot of people complain, during the summer months, that it's just "too hot" to do their daily walks. Well, the treadmill is the perfect solution. You can still get your walks in from the comfort of your own living room, bedroom or where ever you decide to keep that treadmill. But whatever else you do, please put that piece of exercise equipment you own to work by working out that body of yours! And oh, by the way, if you don't have a piece of exercise equipment in your house, I've got an idea. This weekend, maybe you should check out a couple of garages sales in your town. You'll probably find an almost like new treadmill...at a great price!Love,
