Guest guest
I'LL START MY DIET TODAY!Monday, 19 April 2010On Mondays, it seems I receive lots of e-mails from people who blew their eating programs over the weekend. Hey, let's face facts, it's a very easy thing to do. Oh, you know how it is. When you get off work Friday evening, you feel like celebrating, You've worked hard all week and now it's the weekend so...it's time to PAR-TEE! Because we're in such tough economic times these days, a lot of restaurants have discounted their meals making them more affordable for consumers. So, at some chain restaurants, for only $20, you can have an appetizer, salad, a slice of prime rib, scalloped potatoes and a choice from the dessert bar...for two people. Such a deal! That was Friday night. Now on Saturday, you really just want to rest. So you lie on the couch, channel-surfing while munching on that slice of pizza you'd taken from the freezer and heated. And if you end up taking a drive, it's to run down to KFC and pick up that new "sandwich" or theirs. Have you heard about it? No? Well, I just saw a commercial for it this morning. Let me tell you about it. First of all, there's no bread. Where the bread would have been, they've actually used two fried chicken breasts. (No kidding!) And between them, you'll find slices of cheese and bacon, topped with a special KFC sauce. Sound healthy? On Saturday nights, lots of people like to take in a movie. And once they arrive at the cineplex, their first stop is the concession stand. Oh, that popcorn smells so good and oh, look. They have Rollos! I just love them. Sunday can be a lazy day for a lot of people, too. After an inspirational service at church, rather than cook, they decide to order dinner from Shanghai West restaurant across town. They have the best mushu pork and their orange chicken is out of this world. And oh, don't forget to order some extra egg rolls! Then, after a few days of eating whatever you wanted, you notice something when you step on your scale Monday morning. And, surprise(?). It's a weight-gain! Then you get angry, asking yourself questions like, Why did I eat like that over the weekend? What was I thinking? (But the better question would be...were you thinking?) Then, that classic Monday morning thought enters your mind...I need to start my diet today! And, as usual, you get to work on your "diet" but that thought fades from your mind, again...once another weekend arrives! Look everybody, I've told you a thousand times. It's very unhealthy for you to keep on gaining, losing...gaining and losing the same old pounds, over-and-over again, week-after-week. Your body doesn't like for you to keep making those drastic changes to your eating habits. You shouldn't keep "going on diets." You have to stay on a healthy eating and exercise lifestyle...for life. Hey, your body works hard to keep you alive and...it needs your help! And that's true whether it's Wednesday, Saturday or Monday. When you get up in the morning, you should celebrate that new day and...make it count! I know you work hard on your job all week but why punish your body with all of those extra calories over the weekend? Today is Monday. If you have a "food hangover" from the weekend, start your healthy food program one more time today and, this time...don't stop!
