SPRING IS HERE!

Friday, 26 March 2010

Well, I welcomed you to spring last week and now I want to know, are you enjoying this new season so far? Are you feeling...younger than springtime? Ahhh, spring. It's my favorite season. The weather is pretty, the sun's out, my calillies are blooming and, oh...I'm a happy man!

During this season, I spend a lot of time...spring cleaning. Oh, yeah! I begin by going through all of the clothes in my closet. And if I haven't worn something in a year, I give it to a charity so that other people can have clothes on their backs. Now, no...I do not give away my tank-tops. (Hey, they're sacred!)Next, I head for the kitchen because there's a lot of cleaning out to do there. I have so much kitchen stuff...how about you? I mean, how many sets of measuring cups does a person need anyway? On top of the things I buy for myself, lots of companies that make kitchen products are always sending me new items they've created. I'm telling you, one time I had nine juicers in my kitchen! So just like with my closet, I go through my kitchen cabinets and give away all of those things I don't use.

Then I open the refrigerator doors and get to work in there. I remove everything from the fridge then clean the shelves and racks until they sparkle. (By the time I'm done, you could film a Disney movie in there!) Then I put everything back into the fridge, in an orderly manner, thank you. My fridge is now so neat that I know where everything is. Time to hit the freezer! Just like with the fridge, everything comes out as I now make the insides of my freezer sparkle, too. Then all of the frozen items go back in and, believe me...blindfolded, I can show you where to find that package of chicken breasts!I then go through the kitchen cabinets where I keep my other food items. I look at every can, box and bottle and check the expiration dates on each. I toss the things that have expired, then neatly arrange everything else so I can easily find the product I'm looking for.

After the kitchen is done, I head downstairs to my office. I clean off my desk, polish the chairs and rearrange things a bit to make the office a little more exciting. I also like to get outside in the yard this time of year. I get on my hands and knees in the garden...just like Scarlet O'Hara. Oh, you should see me! I clean out old leaves that have built up in my garden and remove the flowers that are done blooming. In their place, I'll plant new flowers, like hyacinths and hydrangeas. And you know where else I do some spring cleaning? In my mind. That's right. I try to get rid of the sad or unhappy thoughts in my mind and replace them with more positive ones.

Ya' know, spring is a good time of year to truly reflect on your life. You should reflect on the New Year's resolutions I hope you made back in January. Think about those resolutions you can check off because you've completed them. Then think about those resolutions you need to work harder at accomplishing. And by the way, during this first month of spring, you also need to spring into action with your workouts and your healthier eating. Hmmm, I think I'll give my kitchen a new look this weekend. Some new curtains would be nice...maybe with some cute polka dots!Enjoy these spring days!Love,
