YOU'VE GOT FAT CELLS

Saturday, 05 June 2010

All of us are born with fat cells. They're just "distributed" differently in everyone's bodies. But the truth is, you were born with a certain number of fat cells.

Let's just say, for argument's sake, you've got a million fat cells beneath your skin. Now here's another truth, those fat cells will be with you until the day you die. See, fat cells don't simply "go away." They can get larger or smaller in size but...they're always there.

For argument's sake again, let's say you have a fat cell the size of an aspirin. (Boy, that really would be a "fat" cell!) If you eat too much food and don't burn it off, the calories from that food gets stored in the fat cell. Then, instead of being the size of an aspirin, that cell is now the size of a lemon. Here's something else you should know: The function of fat cells is to store energy. See, if you eat the proper amounts of food, it gives your body lots of energy all day long. But if you eat too much food and don't burn it off, the excess calories from that food get stored in your fat cells making them larger and, in turn...make you larger. Are you with me so far?

Men typically store fat in their chests, stomachs and buttocks giving them more of an apple shape. Women tend to store fat in their breasts, hips, waists and buttocks giving them a pear shape. When a person keeps overeating high calorie foods and not burning off those calories, by exercising, they become overweight, obese and sometimes even morbidly obese. That's why if you're trying to lose weight...you must be consistent with your workouts. When you gain weight, your body tends to get a little lazy and the excess weight may lead to medical or mobility problems. And when you can't do what you used to do because you've become obese, you end up being very depressed all of the time. And unfortunately, depression doesn't burn calories...only exercise can do that. When you exercise, before your body begins burning more calories, you have to do a safe warm-up to stretch all of your bones and muscles. Then you should move into the cardio part of your workout where you're keeping your arms and legs moving for 30-40 minutes. That would be followed by the cool-down period of your workout. And remember, three days-a-week, you also have to do your toning.

If your fat cells are way too big and you're very overweight, it's going to take some time to build your stamina so you can get up to doing a full hour-long workout. I'm asking you to watch the calorie and fat content of the foods you eat more carefully. And I mean...start today. If you can only get in five minutes of exercise your first tries, that's fine...get in those five minutes. Just keep it up and you will, in time, work yourself up to 30 minutes of exercise a day and later...even more. When that happens, those fat cells of yours will reduce in size, going from "lemon-sized" back to the size of an aspirin. And you know what? That means your body will be smaller-sized, too!Love,
