Guest guest
"SAFE" POUNDS Friday, 20 August 2010 I received an E-mail from a sweet lady named Kathleen. She told me that she was using my FoodMover program and was off to a good start. (I was so excited to hear that!) Kathleen had 150 pounds to lose but she was so ready to take on the job of losing the weight. She set her FoodMover up and began measuring all of her foods. (Something she'd never done before.) She'd also started a walking program which wasn't easy, considering she suffered from a bad back. But, undaunted...walk she did! For fourteen days in a row, Kathleen was faithful and stuck with the program, eating and exercise-wise. In her E-mail, she told me how proud she was of herself. Kathleen had lost 14 pounds in those first two weeks. Hooray for her! Now get this. As she should have been, Kathleen was so proud of her accomplishment. But when she ran to tell her husband how good she was doing, get a load of the response he had for her... "Oh, you've lost 14 pounds? That's nice, Kathleen. But you really should be losing weight faster than that!" Well! It was as if someone had picked her up and tossed Kathleen across the room! (I'll bet her husband ended up sleeping on the couch that night after his thoughtless little comment! LOL.) As you all know, back in my old days, I lost weight many times...the fast way! And when one way wasn't working fast enough for me, I'd try another way. And let me tell you, that was a very dark period in my life. When the diet pills weren't doing the job fast enough, I tried throwing up my food. Later, I began starving myself to lose weight. And after each day of starvation, I'd weigh myself and yes, I was indeed losing weight following every single day of my starving regime. Oh how I rejoiced when I saw those numbers on my scale as they kept going...down. Now you know my story, you know what happened to me. I got sick. Well actually, worse than sick. I was suffering from malnutrition and my body was totally dehydrated. Because of the foolish ways I'd tried to lose weight, I landed in the hospital, scared to death that I was going to end up dead! So trying to lose weight fast got me nowhere...except into a hospital bed. I was down and just about as low as I could get, both physically and mentally. I had to pick myself up, really take control of my eating habits and workout regularly, if I wanted to lose those pounds...the safe way. If you have 100-300 pounds to lose, during the first couple of months of your healthy weight-loss program, you'll lose a lot of pounds. Now remember, a lot of those pounds will be water weight. But it'll still feel like and be a good head start for you. So in those first few weeks, you may see yourself losing 4-5 pounds a week or even more, depending on your starting weight. But as you stay on program, your rate of weight loss will begin to level off and you won't lose at the same rate. But do keep up the good work! As I've always said, if you lose a pound-or-two a week, you should put on your dancing shoes and do a little number! See, when you're losing 1-2 pounds a week, you're losing weight at a safe and healthy rate. And I want you to remember this, too. Even when you stay on program, there may be some weeks where you see no change in your weight. If that happens, don't panic! Remember, your body is just "doing its thing." Maybe those weeks where you didn't see a numeric loss, you were actually losing inches from your body instead of pounds. I know that some of you have gotten sick doing some of the things I tried to lose weight in the past. And I hope you're not thinking of trying any of those dangerous ways to lose weight ever again. Here's what you need to know: Your body wants you to eat...lean proteins, smart carbs, fruits & vegetables, dairy & fats in the right size portions. And your body wants to move. It wants to do The Monkey, The Jerk, The Watusi and The Twist! And when you're doing the right thing at both ends and I mean, with how you eat and the with the exercise, you will reach your weight-loss goal. I've seen hundreds of thousands of people shed their cocoons and become beautiful butterflies by losing the weight. I want to see the same thing happen for you. And oh yeah, there's one more thing I need to tell you before you get started on your busy Friday. Don't ever let anyone close to you put down your hard work with their thoughtless words. If they start talking negative about your weight, just remember what I told you today. Because, believe me, this sweatin' buddy of yours knows what he's talking about!
