Guest guest
THE MERMAID Friday, 30 July 2010 Several weeks ago, a lady I had not seen before joined us for class at Slimmons. It was a Saturday and when she walked into the studio, I was in the middle of teaching our Project Me motivational class. She walked through the studio and into the dressing rooms to change clothes before joining our big workout class that begins right after the Project Me meeting. When she walked back into the studio, I stopped her and said, "You are so beautiful. You remind me of an exotic mermaid." After thanking me for the compliment, it was time to get busy sweatin'! As she took that first class, it was obvious that she was really having a fun time! Her red hair was swaying left and right as if she were performing on stage. She was a mysterious looking lady. I'd say she posessed the eyes of a wise soul, the kind of eyes that literally stared right through you.On the Saturday she visited us, there were 120 people in class and the studio was just filled with energy. She sang along with many of the songs I played and danced with as much energy as any person in class that afternoon. I was impressed! After class, I gave her a big hug, thanked her for coming and she told me that she would be back. (But everyone says that...thank God.) But sure enough, she did come back, just like she promised. As she headed for the back to change into her workout clothes, I called out to her, "How's my mermaid today?" Oh, she loved it and let out this big laugh! When our sweatin' class began, she stood near me in the front of class, just to my left. Her energy felt good coming my way and I loved how she put herself into all of the movements. During the break in class where we grab free weights for the toning segment of our workout, she came over and said to me, "I want to show you something, . You said I look like a mermaid the first time we met and I want you to see, I actually have a mermaid tattoo right here!"Needless to say, I was speechless when I saw her tattoo. It was really pretty. Our eyes met for a moment as she showed it off and I have to say, I felt like I'd known her for a lot longer than two weeks. After class, she handed me her business card. Her name was Sascha Rothchild and turns out, she was a freelance writer for a number of magazines. She told me that she had written an article about Slimmons and wanted me to see it. I told her I'd love to read her article as I gave her a hug and we said good-bye. The next day, Sascha E-mailed me a copy of the article she'd written for Psychology Today. First off, I have to say that she's a very good writer. Her style is very welcoming and she doesn't write "over your head." It's like reading a nice conversation. She said so many kind things about Slimmons and...about me, that I just sat at my computer weeping as I read her article. I E-mailed Sascha back and thanked her for what she'd said about me and my crusade. She'd really touched my heart. And I just know, she'll be coming back to join us in class again. (ly, I miss her.)If you'd like to read Sascha's article, just click on the link. Like I said, she's a wonderful writer and I love the way she captured the spirit and mission of Slimmons.Love,
