Guest guest
Shower Day, means I can check my weight day…. YAY! Finally a NEW low weight! Probably the last time I saw this weight was in the late 90’s. Click to enlarge I am now at a 66 pound loss. Whew. I thought there for awhile I would never lose weight again! Silly I know, because perseverance is always the key but so hard to do. In all of my adult days of dieting and bingeing, I have never had the kind of perseverance that I have now. It’s different this time, I am paying attention to detail, something I never did before. I have learned a great deal from every diet I have ever been on. From a Low Calorie Diet, I learned that human beings simply don’t need as much food as they think they do. The body does adjust to a lower intake. While it is popular to motivate people today to eat more to lose weight, it doesn’t hold up scientifically. I learned that calories do count and that reality is what it is, and all the fighting against it that I did was nothing more than treading water. From a Paleo perspective, I learned that health decline for humans began with the agricultural age. Grains and all the refined products from grains, sugars and refined oils have caused a major decline in health and created the pathway for obesity and diabetes because we never grasped that ancient man never had access to these foods and the body never adapted to them. From a Low Carb Diet, I learned that I feel a 100% better sense of wellbeing and my mood swings are lessened dramatically. I learned how to naturally control my appetite through a higher fat and lower carb intake diet. From ONE BOWL I learned that eating was meant to be enjoyed and that eating isn’t about how much one can eat, but how little it takes to feel complete satisfaction. I learned to reconnect to the joy of nourishing my body through a simple act of kindness to myself. I learned my most profound lessons about eating through this little book. From all the FAD Diets, I learned that there is no magic formula, pill, gadget, food combination to losing weight. Doing outlandish things, spending money, placing all one’s faith in an “outside†thing to lose weight is nothing more than a pipe dream and it is going to fail in the end. Nothing ever needs to be purchased to lose weight. No gym memberships, no special foods or pills, bars, drinks….all it takes is discipline to eat real food in the calorie portions that causes weight loss. We have two legs and meant to walk. We can swim and run. We can lift and carry. Ancient man didn’t exercise, he went about daily living. Exercising is a man made concept for weight control. Says it all right there. Had we eaten only what our bodies needed, we would have always be able to go about daily life without exercising, we would have had the energy to do it all ourselves. Yesterday we had time to stop at Walmart for some fresh food. I decided to get more green beans and saw canned greens, collard, mustard and turnip. Hmmm. As I remember, I tried canned spinach many years ago and thought it was awful, preferring fresh or frozen spinach. But, since I want to wait a bit before having sauerkraut again, and since I need a low carb veggie, I grabbed a few cans of that too. I had the collard greens last night, it was not bad at all. I would of course prefer fresh, but it was doable on the truck. We also bought a rotisserie chicken, (yes I know they inject them with sugar solutions) but again, the ability to have a roasted chicken on the road is practically a luxury. I carefully deboned it, divided it by light and dark meat and then weighed it on a scale, giving my husband 9 oz serving and me a 6 oz serving, and the same weighed out for tonight’s dinner. It was so good! I used the calorie count on the chicken label, which included carbs, which chicken normally doesn’t have unless injected or breaded. The amount was generous, and this dinner came to 359 calories. YUM. So far, since the 8th of this month my daily calorie average is 996 with a net carb average of 23. And I have a loss! Best of all, I feel great and I am full of energy! Since I started on Sept 1, I have not felt this good on my diet. I can hardly believe the difference that reducing carbs this much does for me. I thought 80-100 was fine, but 23 is definitely the best I have felt so far. -- Posted By elisaannh to The Little Bowl at 6/18/2010 07:20:00 AM
