Guest guest
THE HUNGER Tuesday, 29 June 2010 From the time I was born, it seems I was hungry! And as I grew up, I developed a greater hunger for certain foods. For instance, I loved fried foods. I also loved crusty French bread and Oysters Rockefeller. Give me those fried shrimp, too. (Of course!) And you know what else I loved? Warm donuts! There was a donut shop near our house in New Orleans' French Quarter. I love'd stopping there early in the day as those fresh, hot donuts came out. Let me ask you a personal question. Do you like warm donuts? Do you love that feeling when you bite into one and the warmth just about makes it melt in your mouth? Oh admit it, some of you know exactly what I'm talking about! And as for me, it wasn't just donuts. I hungered for all kinds of sweets. Another taste sensation I loved was salty. I've told you before that when I was young, I salted just about everything. Oh yes, from fried chicken to watermelon...pass the salt! So, were you like me when I was a kid? And are you still feeling the hunger for food? Yes, that hunger can be strong! I mean, you can be walking down the street and pass, oh say, a pizza parlor. Inside, you see the customers chowing down on one big slice of pizza after another. And on top of that...oh, the aroma of pizza coming from inside is filling your nose and your brain. And before you know it, temptation has gotten the better of you and there you are, waiting in line for your own slice of pizza! Oh, no! "The Hunger" wins again. Now the bad news is that the more you feed the hunger, the more the hunger grows. And, truth is, if you're not careful, that hunger can take over your life and control it. Honestly, with this hunger living inside you, along with your constantly giving in to it, bottom line is that you're never going to lose the weight you need to lose.So don't you think, after all these years of hungering for food, you should now have a hunger in other areas of your life? You know, like a hunger for...good health!I'm proud to say that I do have that kind of hunger in my life now. I know how good I feel when I eat healthy. I know how good I feel when I'm getting my exercise in daily. I feel like a million bucks...I really do!I also hunger to be a better person. We're all brothers and sisters here on this earth. Making an effort to be kind to each other is something else we should all hunger for. I'll tell you something else I hunger for...teaching my exercise classes. I can't wait to get to Slimmons and teach my next class. I can't wait to visit a different city so I can teach a big exercise class for a convention or at a health expo. My adrenaline really starts pumping in anticipation of those times I get to lead a big exercise class. I hunger for it!You know, it can be a magical feeling when you hunger for the more positive things in life. And, may I ask, what do you hunger for in your life...besides food? You have to ask yourself that question today. And I want you to come up with a good, honest answer for that question, too. Okay?Hunger for betterment in your life. I mean, let's face it, you're always going to be tempted by food. (I know I am.) And yes, sometimes I do get a little weak and give in to my temptations. But I think about how overeating can lead to setbacks in my taking good care of myself. I'm able to defeat the hunger so I can stay in control instead of allowing the food to control me. And yes, I avoid the pity-party that eating something "dangerous" may lead to.I hunger for you to listen to what I have to say today, my friends. You should control your hunger for the food. That way, like me, you'll keep the food from controlling you. HUNGER for a happier and healthier life!Love,
