Guest guest
HERE COMES THE BRIDE Monday, 28 June 2010 Slimmons has been very busy lately. Some of our classes have doubled and even tripled in size. It's like this, someone will go on Face Book and post something like, "I'm taking an exercise class with at his studio this Saturday. Who wants to join me?" Then lo and behold, that one person, because of her posting, ends up bringing another 15 people to class! We're just loving those big crowds at the club. Some of the students who join us come to class wearing 80s-style workout outfits, complete with spandex workout pants and headbands.Ever since I opened Slimmons nearly forty years ago, I've often had groups of young ladies come in as part of pre-wedding celebrations. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I had a bride-to-be come in with her six bridesmaids and her mother even joined them. And once the wedding has taken place, sometimes the brides will come back to class and show me photos from their big events. Sometimes the brides will even bring their new husbands to class so I can meet them.I love seeing two people in love. They look at each other and their eyes are filled with so much, well...love. After class ends and I've had a chance to say hello to the new couple, they often hold hands as they walk out the door. Oh, those two lovebirds! Now I have to say, over the many years I've been helping people lose weight, I've spotted a bit of a trend. See, I've noticed that when people get married, they do everything out of love. And of the many loves they share, one of those shared loves is often...eating! It must be a lot of fun eating with someone who loves to eat like you and...as much as you. Here's a little scenario I think you'll relate to. Tom had to work late at the office. But Becky didn't mind because she was cooking a big meal and dinner was going to be a little late, too. After Tom arrived home, he dropped his briefcase on the coffee table and walked into the kitchen. "Mmmm! Something smells really good," Tom said."Well, of course something smells good, darling," Becky replied. "I've made your favorite dinner. Beef stroganoff and green bean casserole with those little fried onions you love. For dessert, I have your other favorite...strawberry shortcake! And by the way, none of that canned spray-on topping, I whipped the cream myself!""Oh, Becky, sweetie! You really know the way to my heart. I'm ready to dig in!"Yes, love, cooking and food go hand-in-hand. What I've discovered from reading all of my E-mail over the years is that the newly married couple can easily gain 20-30 pounds in the first year of marriage. I mean, after saying "I do" to each other, I'm sorry to say that they often end up saying "I do"...to the food, too!Well, here we are in the month of June and it's often the month for weddings. Ahhhh, June. Such a popular month for those couples to walk down the aisle preparing to devote the rest of their lives to each other. So, are you getting married this month or in the coming months? Well, if you are, first of all, congratulations. But I also want you to heed my warning: The first two things a couple should do along with their wedding vows are 1)Establish a daily exercise routine and, 2) Pledge to eat healthy together. See, when you truly love someone, you want to both be around for a long time loving each other. And the way to ensure that you're together for a long time is for you both to be healthy. If you're in love, sit down with your significant other and have a good-health chat with him or her about your future together. If you are getting married soon, I'm so excited for you! I would just love to attend your wedding, too. But I'm afraid, at the reception, I'd be so tempted by the food that I'd keep saying...I do, I do, I do!Love,
