Guest guest
HOW DO I LOVE MYSELF? Thursday, 21 January 2010 In yesterday's column, I gave you my formula for getting healthy. And the first part of that formula is to love yourself. Now I know a lot of people have a very hard time with this one. That's because these people don't think very highly of themselves. Let's get to the source of the problem, though. See, from the time you're born to now, you either get the love you need or...you don't. I was very fortunate to get tons of love from both my parents. But I know that others weren't quite as fortunate as me. Many people grew up in homes without that much love. In fact, their parents may have had problems with their own self-worth and self-love. And if you were raised in that kind of environment, chances are, you may have ended up not caring so much about who you are.Love only flourishes when it's nurtured. When someone grows up without a lot of love in their lives, they don't think they can accomplish much here on this earth. They begin thinking...Why even bother? There are many people who were raised with lots of love but during the course of their lives, that love may have been taken away by someone who said they loved them. And if someone takes that love way from you a second, third of even a fifth time, well, you end up feeling just plain hopeless and sad. When you feel that way, you don't want to eat healthy and exercise regularly because you just don't care so much about yourself anymore. And with that kind of attitude, believe me, you'll never lose the weight you want and need to lose. Now, if you're one of those people who doesn't love themselves, here's what I want you to think about today. You need to put the past behind you. You need to forgive and forget about those who hurt you and stole your love away. Today, I want you to think of five things that you do love about yourself. If you can't think of five, then I want you to think of at least three. Write them down and everyday, I want you to look at that list and start believing in the things about yourself you wrote on that sheet of paper. And every week, you should try to add one more reason to that list of reasons you should really love you! Another thing I'd like you to do is read my Project Me Passport,* a list of 21 affirmations that I read everyday to help me do the things that will build my own self-love.When you know your own worth, you'll begin to love yourself more. And it'll put you in the right frame of mind to begin taking better care of yourself and...loving yourself even more!Love, ~~~~~~~~ *Sue's note: The link to the Project Me Passport above is to 's Clubhouse, a paid portion of his website.
