Guest guest
"FRIENDSHIP, FRIENDSHIP... Wednesday, 24 February 2010 ...All you need is friendship!" When you're a member of the Clubhouse here on my website, you get to attend our weekly chats and auditoriums. And before everyone joins us for chat each week, I give them homework to do. So every week in chat, we have a theme to discuss. Well, this past Monday's theme was all about friendship. My first question to everyone was: What qualities do you look for in a friend? And as a I learned from my Clubhouse members, there are many qualities they consider when making a new friend. Most of them said a friend should be fun. And I really agree with that one. Hey, who needs a friend who's always whining, complaining and criticizing everything, huh? I mean, you have to be there for your friends in the up times and the down times. But hopefully, not too many down times. LOL.Another quality they talked about in a friend was patience. Friendships don't grow overnight. It takes a while to get to know someone and understand them. Sure, you may think some friendships spring up overnight. Well, it may ignite overnight but you have to keep feeding the fire consistently to form a meaningful friendship.Another quality my members said they looked for in a good friend was trust. You know how you say to some people..."I'm gonna tell you something but please don't repeat what I tell you to a soul!" And, before you know it...the whole town knows! But when you confide in a true friend, you don't have to make them take some secrecy oath. Why? Because over time, you've trusted your friend enough to know that you can share with them what's on your mind and in your heart in confidence that it's just between you two. One other quality mentioned was adventure. You don't want a friend who only wants to sit and watch the Wednesday night comedy lineup on ABC! You want a friend who wants to go out and do things like see a movie with you, go bowling or visit a big bookstore like & Noble. Or you want a friend who'll get in the car and go for a drive like Thelma & Louise. But not like Bonnie & Clyde. (Hey, don't make friends with bank robbers! You'll end up wearing black and white stripes!) My second question to them was this: Who are your two closest friends and why? And just about all of them said their closest friends were their parents or siblings. Some mentioned friends from first grade they've known all of their lives. Many of them also said one of their best friends were their spouses...and isn't that a nice friend to have in your corner?Speaking of friends, I want to thank each of you for being my friend. That was the theme song from the hit TV series, The Golden Girls. It's also one of my favorite songs of all time, Thank You For Being A Friend. And I'd like to end today's message by saying, your friendship means a lot to me so...Thank You for being MY friend!Love,
