CHOP, CHOP!

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

No, I'm not going to talk to you about how to chop ingredients for salads today. And I'm not going to talk about lamb chops or pork chops, either. Today, we're going to talk about your teeth, that is...your personal choppers!

Let me ask, what do you think your teeth are for? Sure, they're for showing off your cute little smile. But they're also there to help you chop the foods you put into your mouth. When I was growing up in New Orleans, let me tell ya', I was the fastest chopper at our dinner table. I don't think back then I actually even tasted anything I put into my mouth. Hey, it was all going down so fast. I was trying to get all of that food down as quickly as possible so I could have some more!Compulsive eaters own compulsive choppers. If you notice, a lot of people eat really fast. And you know that's not good for your system. Now back to teeth talk.

Everyday, your teeth are chopping food from morning to night. You chop up those eggs or some cereal at breakfast. At lunch time, you may chow down on some fajitas with those choppers of yours. And at dinner, you may have some fried chicken. (Your choppers really like crispy foods!)Now if you don't take good care of your choppers, some bad things are going to happen inside your mouth. You have to take care of your teeth which means you need to see your dentist regularly. And to help keep those choppers of yours working properly, you have to take good care of them. The first thing you really have to do is floss...aggressively. You have to get that dental floss in between every one of your teeth. You've got to get in there with the dental floss and do a little "hoola" between your choppers. Then you have to brush. And I mean you've got to brush not only the areas of your teeth you can easily see but also those hard to reach places that you don't see so easily. After you rinse, you need to get some Scope or Listerine and gargle for 20-30 seconds. (Ahhhh, that was so refreshing.) Personally, I repeat this ritual three times a day. I also visit the dentist once a year to have my teeth cleaned professionally. , my hygienist, has been doing my teeth for 20 years now.

You also have to get X-rays of your teeth annually to make sure your teeth and gums are in good condition. Now I know you're busy. And I know I keep asking you to do things but...taking good care of your teeth is very important. My father was so proud that, at the age of 86, he had perfect, beautiful teeth. Oh, how they shined! Keep your teeth shining by taking good care of them everyday. Love,
