Guest guest
BREAK IT UP! Saturday, 22 May 2010 We all get into our routines. In fact, they began when we're children. We got up, ate breakfast, caught the bus for the ride to school, came home, did our homework, snacked while watching TV then went to bed. Oh, it was the same old routine...every single day. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it. The early routines in our lives were important because they helped us learn to structure our time. And we all need structure in our lives. After grade school, we go on to high school and college. And during our later school years, our routines really don't change all that much. They pretty much stay the same. We just change them a little as we grow into young adults. Then, after the whole cap and gown thing, finally, we're on our own to pursue our lives as adults. It's time to find that perfect career and to prosper. But once you start your career and life as an adult, that same familiar routine you learned so well as a child sorta reappears. You get up, sometimes have breakfast, drive to work, (no school bus anymore), come home, eat, watch a movie on TV and then it's off to bed. Oh, the discipline in us all. It really keeps us going. But hey, today is Saturday! I say you need to break it up a little! It's the perfect day to break out of your routine. Most of you don't have to work today. So why not spend some time doing something fun for a change? For instance, are you the museum type? Then visit a local museum. (Hey, you may even run into Ben Stiller! LOL.) I love museums. It's amazing to see the works of art others have created with their hands and a paint brush. Sometimes I look at those paintings and try to visualize the artist as he or she was standing there painting them. How's about taking in a movie today. It's summer blockbuster season. How's about Iron Man 2 or going to see Crowe rescuing Maid n in Robin Hood?Maybe you can visit a park or go to the zoo. I'd love to go to the zoo today. But I'm the gatekeeper at Slimmons and I've got to be there. Besides, some of my students at the club are like animals! LOL. Or how's about a nice long walk around your neighborhood or at the mall? If you have a green thumb, this is the perfect time of year to visit a local nursery and pick out some beautiful hydrangeas or geraniums. (Oh how those geraniums love the sun.) After you've made your selections, go home and do some yard work putting out your new plants. (I find it very therapeutic.) Or you could make some time to start an herb garden. They don't take a lot of space. You could even make a sweet little herb garden for your kitchen window sill. Maybe there's a new play in town or a concert you can attend this evening. I know you can think of a million other things you can to break up this Saturday, having some fun and adding a little variety to your life. It'll be good for you!Okay now, I've got to think of what I'm going to do for fun today. Wait, I've got it....I'll teach a fun exercise class at Slimmons then later, maybe I'll visit a real zoo. LOL!Love,
