Guest guest
SNOWMAGEDDON! Monday, 15 February 2010 Oh, do I ever have a story to tell you today. On last Tuesday morning, I left Los Angeles and flew to New York City to appear on The Dr. Oz Show. But who knew I would be greeted by snow. And I'm not talking just a little snow...I'm talking the biggest snow storm to hit New York City in 20 years! I woke up Wednesday morning, looked out of my hotel window and it looked as if God had just poured a giant box of snowflakes all over the city. As I stared out the window, I could hardly believe my eyes. I'm telling you, I could barely see the buildings across the street. I had to leave the hotel at 8:30 that morning and head over to NBC where Dr. Oz tapes his show.On the drive over, there were no people on the streets. It looked like all of Manhattan had been evacuated! There had to be at least a foot of snow on the ground. I arrived at the studio and went right through those revolving doors to get out of the cold. B-r-r-r-r-r! But what a great experience it was doing The Dr. Oz Show. As I told you last week, this was his 100th show and his audience included 100 people who had each lost 100 pounds or more. During the show, Dr. Oz focused on the success stories of four audience members and the weight-loss tips they each had to offer. Later, when I came out and was introduced to the audience, Dr. Oz interviewed me about my life, my success and my career. Of course, just 30 seconds into the show and I was weeping. What a truly kind man Dr. Oz is. I just adored being with him.At the end of the show, we had all 100 people on stage dancing to Hit The Road Jack from my latest DVD, Sweatin' To The Oldies 5. Oh, what fun! After we finished the show, I was ready to fly home to Los Angeles. But...hold it! I'd received news that my flight back to LA had been canceled! All of New York's airports were closed and, in fact, airports in major cities all along the East coast had been shut down. There was no way to get out of the city. No matter which TV station you turned to, they all had the same news. The East coast was paralyzed because of all the snowfall. So I wasn't going anywhere. On Thursday, I thought I could get an early flight out but I was wrong. All of New York's airports were jammed with other passengers trying to reach their final destinations. The only plane I could get out was leaving New York at 6PM. I have to tell you, I was a little upset but I made the best use of my time by answering e-mails and keeping myself busy so I wouldn't get cabin fever there in my hotel room.My goodness, I don't know how people in these cold climates deal with this kind of weather. Hey, I'm a southern California dude! Well, the good news is that I finally got home around 10:00PM and boy, was I ever happy to get home safely. I got into bed with Hattie and fell fast asleep with her in my arms. I just hope that Mother Nature will be a little kinder to all of those areas that were snowed in last week. Well, that's my snow story and, let me tell ya', I hope I don't have to see snow again for a very long time. Stay warm! Love,
