"I'M NOT EXERCISING."

Saturday, 10 April 2010

I see that phrase a lot in the e-mails I receive. The people who say those words to me are all working to lose weight by trying to watch their consumption of calories and fat grams, alone. (But you and I know that doesn't work.)

They say to me, ", I'm not exercising. It's just so hard for me. And I may as well tell you, I really don't enjoy exercise at all."Well, truth is, I once felt the same way as the people who make those kinds of statements. I didn't even take my first exercise class until I was in my mid-20s. I've told you in before that, in my younger days, I simply dreaded the idea of exercise. Oh, a sweaty-old workout? Please! The idea didn't appeal to me...at all!I'm telling you, when I saw people exercising, I thought they were simply wasting their time. That is until the day exercise bit me...like a snake! I wanted to be healthy and...I wanted to live! From that day on, I became a regular dancing machine! And once I got started, I'm telling you...I couldn't stop! And why? Well, it's because as I began seeing and feeling the results of my workouts, I fell in love with exercise even more. That's one of the reasons I opened Slimmons, my exercise studio in Los Angeles. I wanted to share with others what I'd learned about the benefits of exercise.

When I'm working out, I don't really think about anything else except for what I'm doing. I just listen to the music, get taken away by it and make my body move. I notice that when I exercise, I'm in a very happy place, mentally. For one thing, I know that when I'm working out, I'm doing good for every single part of my body. From my brain to my feet and, oh! It feels so neat! Early on, I couldn't help but notice how exercise strengthened my lungs. When I was a kid, I had very serious asthma. But ever since I made exercise a dedicated part of my life, I haven't had an asthma attack since!Exercise has kept my skin looking good and my eyes clear. It keeps my heart strong, circulating oxygen-rich blood throughout my body. Exercise has given my body a nice shape, too. No, I'm not some big body builder and I don't have a great six-pack. But I am packed with stronger bones and muscles. Hey, I used to feel like a grazing cow but now I feel like a sprinting gazelle!

In those e-mails I was telling you about earlier, many of the people who send them ask, "So , how can I get motivated to exercise on a regular basis?" And do you know what I tell them? Well, I tell them everything I just told you.

In fact, I want you to print this message and read again about the benefits of exercise. And one day, if it hasn't already, that exercise snake will bite you. I'm telling you, get that body of yours moving and you'll begin seeing the importance of your daily workouts!

Now let me tell you, there will lots of excuses popping into your head for not wanting to exercise. I'm talking thoughts you should ignore like...I'm too tired, I'm too busy or I'm too lazy. Well, I want you to ignore every one of those or any other excuse that tries to get into your head. Junk every excuse!Just keep thinking of the so many good reasons why you need to make sweating and toning a must-have part of your life...everyday!Love,
