On January 1st, Diane E-mailed to tell me that 2010 was going to be her year for weight loss. She'd gone grocery shopping and her house was filled with healthy foods for to eat. She had several exercise DVDs and promised herself that she would do one of them every day. Diane also told me she'd bought a journal and was journaling her feelings daily.

On January 8th, I received another E-mail from Diane. She'd just come back from celebrating her mother's 70th birthday at a local restaurant. She confessed that while there, she hadn't stayed on program and ate w-a-a-a-a-y too much food. She also confessed that she had not worked out in five days. On January 17th, Diane E-mailed me that she'd gotten back on program since that bad day in the restaurant. She got on the scale that morning to discover she'd lost six pounds. Plus, she had exercised...nine days in a row!On the 19th, Diane told me that her husband was going to Las Vegas for a business trip and that she was getting to go with him. She planned to do a lot of walking on the Strip while she was there but promised she would steer clear of all those famous all-you-can-eat Las Vegas buffets.

Well, on the 24th, I got a new E-mail from Diane that contained some bad news. Seems she had indeed caved in to temptation and visited a few buffets while she was in Vegas. And those plans to really walk along the Strip never materialized, like she promised. (Oh, it was just too hot!)Diane gained five pounds while she was in Las Vegas and, understandably, she was very upset with herself. Can you relate to Diane's story? You know, one day, you're really excited about your weight-loss journey but in a few days, you've completely detoured off the healthy road.

Now I'll be honest with you, this was my own pattern for years. And I did beat myself up every time I gained back the pounds I'd worked so hard to lose. Yes, I was a quitter. How many of you have been quitters and why do you think you became a quitter? I can tell you how I went from quitting to winning. See, when I quit so many times before, I think it was because I really didn't believe I could stay on program and reach my goal. I was filled with so much self-doubt that I lost the courage I needed to continue. What separates those from who stay on the horse form those who fall off? Yes, it's courage! Courage to see you through all the temptations that will be facing you each day. The courage it takes to be disciplined enough to do your workouts daily. And the courage it takes to walk into a restaurant and not eat as if you haven't had any food in five days! And the only way you build courage inside is to believe in yourself every minute of every day...never letting your guard down. Oh, I received another E-mail from Diane yesterday. And I'm happy to report that she's back on program...again. When I write her back, I'm going to send her this entire message I've written for you today.Love,

Thanks Sue, I don’t usually follow , but this message spoke to me

today. It does take courage and commitment to see it through the difficult

times. Life bumps up and down, but courage can be developed as a main stay.
