HOW'S THE EXERCISE GOING?

Monday, 04 January 2010

Today we enter the fourth day of the new year. So, did you exercise on January 1st? The 2nd? January 3rd? And what did you do for exercise? Did you get up in the morning and stretch your body after sleeping in funny positions during the night? Did you do sit-ups and push-ups? Did you get in some cardio and toning over the past three days? How long did you work out? And before you went to bed the last three nights, did you cool down your body each night?

What's that? Did I hear a "no"? Wait, did I hear two "no's", (gasp)...five of them? (Oh, oh!) Now didn't we just talk about this a few days ago? Didn't we talk about your needing to stay on program to lose five pounds a month? Well, I'm telling you, without your workouts, you will not accomplish that five-pounds-a-month weight-loss.

Yes, there're a lot of people who diet and lose weight without exercising. But those people put the pounds they lost back on oh-so quickly and...that's scary! And you know what people look like when they go on one of those low-calorie diets without working out. They look pale and unhealthy. They have no energy and no perkiness. All they can say is, "Oh, I've lost 42 pounds now!" But they're so weak, they can hardly get the words out of their mouths. You'd be surprised how many people die each year as a result of malnutrition. And you don't want to do that to your body!

I mean, how many diets have you been on in the past that were not healthy and then put the weight you lost right back on? That's why exercise must become a way of life for you this year.

How much did you lose again last year? Was it 60 pounds? Oh, it wasn't? Well, was it 40 pounds? No...not that much either? I've had people write me recently who told me that for all of last year, they lost 22 pounds. And those people did not exercise at all as they lost the weight. But that's why they didn't lose even more weight in 2009.

I know you have some workout DVDs. Many of you have treadmills, an elliptical or a stationary bike in your homes. Some of you have free-weights and toning bands or cords. Others among you belong to a gym or to your local "Y". So please, use all of the tools at your disposal to keep yourself exercising daily so you're burning lots of calories daily. Do that and you will achieve your weight-loss goals this month and every month of this new year!

Now I know that quite a few of you reading today's message have not exercised in a long time. So you need to start out slowly and safely. If you're doing a workout DVD, do 15-20 minutes of it during those first days, if you can. But I'm telling you, your stamina will improve. I promise you. And don't let your "lazy bones" stop you from working out, either. Lazy bones say things like this to you..."I'm too tired for exercise today...I don't feel like it today...I'm too busy today!" (Any of those excuses sound familiar to you?)

Well, no, no...no! We'll have none of that this year. You should get up every morning and say to yourself, "Hey...my body's got a brand new day and I'm gonna take good care of my body today!"

Now all this year, you know I'm going to talk about exercising a lot so you might as well just give in and...do it! LOL.

So what's my workout going to be today? Well, I'll do 45 minutes of toning for my upper body. And I'll also work on my chest, shoulders, back, my biceps and triceps.

And what kind of exercise will you do today?

Love,
