B-R-R-R-R-R-R!

Friday, 08 January 2010

I'm leaving this morning flying over to Philadelphia again. But it's not for QVC this time. Once I get into Philly, I'll be driving up to the Poconos to appear at the Mount Airy Casino. And oh, everyone's been E-mailing to tell me how horrible the weather's going to be in that part of the country this weekend. It's supposed to be freezing cold with rain, sleet and lots of snow! (Gee, I'm really looking forward to this trip! LOL.)

I've been watching the Weather Channel so I know it's gonna be pretty doggoned cold all over the country this weekend. Even Florida is feeling the chill! Now I have to tell you, I'm not really a wintery kinda guy. Hey, I love the sunshine! But I know I'm not gonna get much of the sun's rays this weekend. A lot of people wonder how can they possibly exercise in this kind of weather. Well, you can! You shouldn't be walking or jogging when the weather gets this cold. Oh, I know you can take part in activities like skiing or even iceskating in this kind of weather. And those are great ways to workout. But how many people do you know who do those kinds of activities?

A lot of people don't exercise at all when it gets this cold. They come up with all kinds of excuses not to work out when the mercury really drops. This weekend, I'll exercise in the privacy of my hotel room. I'll stretch and warm up my upper and lower body. Then I'll do my cardio to music playing on the radio. And in no time, I'll feel like I'm working out at Slimmons. I'll be in my own little fitness world right there in my hotel room!Oh, yes. I'll do my grapevines and my leg-lifts. I'll do kick-backs and my low-impact jumping jacks. I'll laugh, I'll sing and 40 minutes later, I'll look like a poodle that just fell into the pool. I'll also do some resistance exercises for my muscles. And I'm telling you, by the time I'm finished, I'll feel like a fountain of youth! Some of you have treadmills in your homes. If it's really cold where you are, stay inside and get on it everyday. Or you may have an elliptical or a stationary bike. I'm sure it's warm in your homes. So there're no excuses for you not to use those pieces of exercise equipment. I know a lot of you do like to walk outdoors but not right now. (You'll get your chance when spring arrives.) In the meantime, you cannot put your exercise into "winter storage."

I wonder if you remind yourself before working out why you're working out. You're gonna sweat and its gonna make you feel so much better. That exercise will give you stronger bones, a more efficient heart, improved circulation and let's not forget what the exercise does for our mental states of mind. It makes us happy. It makes us smile. And it puts our attitudes in a better place.I don't know what the temperature is today in your city. But please don't let it erase the fact that you need to workout everyday to discover what "healthy" feels like.

Be warm!Love,
