Guest guest
"AFRAID I'M GONNA..." Tuesday, 16 March 2010 I wish you could be here at my desk for a day and read my e-mails with me. Well, truth is, I don't read my e-mails in front of anyone. I read them when I'm alone so I can really concentrate. And I make little notes for myself as I read. I'm jotting down questions I may want to ask when I call the person who wrote me. And when I do call, as I listen to them, some of the comments they make really stick out and I'll write them down in my notes. One comment that struck me this weekend was this..."My doctor told me that if I don't lose this weight, I'm gonna die!"Shocking, isn't it? I mean, just the thought that being overweight can lead to death. I receive e-mails like this all the time. I'm sure it has to be frustrating for a doctor, having to make such an alarming statement to a patient. But remember, that lady's doctor has been seeing her for years and, every year, he'd been warning her about the dangers the weight posed for her health. But wait, it gets worse. In spite of his regular warnings, this lady continued to overeat and gain even more weight. And as a result of her growing weight, she now suffers from high blood pressure, over-the-top triglycerides and she also has diabetes. So one day, that doctor of hers was overwhelmed with what she was doing to her body. His statement may have been intended to add a little shock value, hoping to get this lady to wake up! But we know that the continued warnings he was giving her about obesity and death were oh-so close to the truth. And you know what else? (And you're not gonna believe this.) This lady kept right on overeating! She confessed in her original e-mail that she'd just consumed two-thirds of a pizza she'd taken out of the freezer and baked! Apparently, death did not scare her that much. So, does death scare you? Have you ever had a doctor say to you, "If you don't lose this weight, you're going to die?" Hey, those words certainly would scare me!Are you like this lady and simply not paying attention to those warnings from your doctor? Well, if you won't pay attention to your doctor, please...pay attention to me! In the years I've been on my crusade, I've suffered the loss of hundreds of men, women...and, so sadly, even teens who died because they never made the commitment to control their eating habits and their weight. Some of these people I knew very well.If you're like this lady, you need to go back to your doctor and tell him or her that he was right and that you're now willing and ready to take on losing this weight. Believe me, your doctor wants the same thing I want for you. And that is for you to live and to love life!I hope you have a real zest for life, like I do. I mean, you really do want to live, don't you? Hey, our lives are so very precious, aren't they?Love,
Guest guest
...."My doctor told me that if I don't lose this weight, I'm gonna die!"----------------------------I have never had a doctor want to put me on a diet. I really didn't see any doctor regularly, perhaps this is why. Of course, I admit I never asked a doctor about my weight, I hoped he/she wouldn't notice or say anything, because I would be mortified, I think. I am not sure how I would handle it if a doctor said something! Of course, what better person to talk to about it, but I am such a shy person, I think it would be too personal! lol. Has anyone here been confronted by a doctor? As we are returning to Europe in a few years, I am very acutely aware that the incidence of obesity is no where near what it is in America. Especially since we will be moving to a small traditional town, I just dread the thought that I would be known as the largest person there. My every hope is that I have this weight completely off before I arrive. Has anyone here been confronted by a doctor? Ohhhhh yes!! When I first started this journey up over 300 lbs, he said something like "you really need to do something about this" I remember when I had lost 25-30 pounds and was in there and he was acting like I had lost nothing and was going off on me again and I said to him yes, I get it, I need to lose weight, but you need to acknowledge that I have lost xx pounds now. So, he charted it LOL!! I felt so good standing up to him that day. I would say I have a love/hate relationship with that doctor. Funny thing, is he is a doctor in an HMO clinic and I went to him YEARS ago when my employer at the time used that medical insurance and then when I changed employers so different insurance, I went somewhere else and then when this employer changed to that insurance, I went back (I guess familiarity or something), now lost him again due to insurance changes. So I have two doctors I go back and forth between depending on the stupid insurance. They both think it is the pits how insurance rules our lives.
