Guest guest
"I'M JUST GONNA SIT HERE!" Thursday, 11 March 2010 Growing up, I was certainly a lazy boy. (And I'm not talking about the furniture company either.) I wasn't lazy when it came to my homework. And oh, I sure I wasn't lazy when it came to cleaning my plate at dinner, that's for sure! I also wasn't lazy about saying my prayers every night. But I was lazy when it came to taking good care of my body. When I was younger, I really didn't like to move all that much. (Unless there was a big sale at Maison Blanche department store down on Canal Street.) Oh, I'd get up in the morning, pop myself out of bed and get ready for school. Then I'd head straight for the breakfast table! And there I'd sit, eating a "breakfast of champions"...for two! Once I finished breakfast(s), I'd walk the three blocks to school to start my school day. After school, I'd come home and lay in bed for a few minutes before getting up to do my homework. After my homework was done, I'd have dinner then sit and watch a couple hours of TV in the living room before heading for my room to say my prayers and go to sleep. Hey, being overweight makes you tired and...it can make you a little lazy too. That is when it comes to physical activity. My father was the complete opposite of me. He was just a really active man. He walked everywhere in the French Quarter because we didn't own a car. I would see him do his stretches in the mornings and again before he went to bed at night. He'd be doing so much and would often say to me, "Dicky, you are just so lazy!" And wasn't that a nice thing to hear, huh?Hey, no one likes to be called lazy. It's really kind of an insult. But in many ways, calling me lazy wasn't all that far from the truth. I mean, I wasn't using my arms and legs as much as I should. And that meant I wasn't using my heart and lungs very much either. I would sit around or lay around, just about all day long. Why bother with all of that physical stuff? Many times I lost weight early in life, I never added exercise to my routine to help get the weight off. And oh, did I ever do some terrible things to lose weight...during my lazy state. Plus, I'd always gain back the pounds I'd lost. Now I don't think you're lazy in many areas of your life. But...are you lazy when it comes to exercise? Don't hem and haw. Just answer the question...yes or no? Look, a lazy body is a "crazy" body. When you don't use your body, it begins to "rust" on you and maybe even give you episodes of pain, especially as you get older. You may begin developing back problems or cramps in parts of your body. When you're lazy, your breathing is not as good as it should be. And when you're lazy, it can also lead to a number of health problems for you. I know you may have thousands of reasons that you don't work out but I really don't buy most of them. In fact, I can give you thousands of reasons why you should work out. And you know those reasons too. When you're stretching, toning and dancing, you become your own version of the Fountain of Youth. Hey, the body that moves is the body that grooves.I'm telling you this from my own personal experience. The day I stopped being lazy, my whole life changed. But now I'm so active, I just about have to sleep in a cage at night! LOL.Now look, I want you to bee fit as a daisy and please...don't be lazy! Especially when it comes to taking good care of yourself. So tell me, what exercise will you do today?Love,
