Guest guest
My son doesn't like big bows on his shoes. He calls them " clowny bows " , " my shoes have clowny bows, I hate clowny bows!!! " Now scream this really loud over and over again and stomp your feet. He has gotten better though now, no screaming he just says " Just take me to the circus already why don't ya " if the bows are too big. Other than that, he only has the sock seam thing. I also hate bunchy thick socks with seams. He wears sandals most of the time, and so do I. Good thing we live in Florida. The rest of the clothes seem okay. Though, he does break out in a rash if there is an itchy tag, and so do I. I do, however, like my bows big and clowny, lol. I never thought of these things as OCD, more hypersensitive, well except for the clowny bow thing, we always thought that was strange. The rash on his neck doesn't bother him though. Its just very red and bumpy, so that seems like a geniune sensitivity thing. Now, he just likes to make sure his clothes are " cool dude " clothes. Whatever that means at the time. Guest guest
I agree with nna about the approach, we had every clothing issue there was, sock seams, slipping socks, shoes not tight enuf, pants that slipped down, tags, no bows on clothes, no loose shirts or with ruffles...the list goes on and on. Our Dr. did CBT on these issues and it took 4-6 weeks to eliminate them all. He had her go to a session and made her put on 2 socks at a time with bad seams and wear her shoe on the wrong foot and walk around. She had major tantrums but after 2 sessions, she didn't complain anymore. Same with CBT/ERP with pants slipping down. He didn't let her wear a belt and made me bring in pants that were loose and she had to walk around with those on and not pull them up and he sang a song about her pants falling down. That took one session to eliminate. And so on. It has been 1 1/2 years and now my 9 year old wears almost anything. No more returning clothes which was a constant, or tantrums about them not feeling right etc. Sensory integration didn't work with her in the traditional way with these sensory issues as it was more OCD. And I am an O.T.! Hope this helps. Sue
Guest guest
how funny - I'm a C.O.T.A. ! of course I haven't worked a day since the first was born 7 years ago and feel like I know nothing - and that I can't even help my own with S.I., handwriting or anything - I'm glad this sounds more OCD because we've seen success and that so many have had success!!! so excited to try - thanks all!!! Guest guest
Hey all, I was wondering what everyone is doing about clothes. I'm a bit of a clothes horse (okay, a big one!) but today I realized that most of my pants are literally falling off me. I've already given away tons of clothes to one friend ... but now I'm moving out of a size that is too small for her. So, I'm curious what others are doing about this? I don't want to keep them around ... but frankly, I buy pretty nice stuff and don't just want to trash them. I really wanted to give them to a woman's shelter ... but I can't find a number to make plan to drop off (I understand that they keep their locations private). I can always give them to Good Will, but I know they sell stuff ... I'd rather give to someone who just gives to who needs. Any recommendations? I live in Virginia Beach, VA. Thanks!
