Guest guest
I know a guy who was working out with nothing but hydraulics and bc they only work eccentricly not concentricly (or vice versa..i forget right now, plus i seem to have forgotten how to speel) - he became so weak, that he fell trying to walk down a flight of stairs and broke his leg. Curves is NOT the way to build mx, but it's great for cardio. On 7/15/05, Skwigg <skwigg@...> wrote: > Curves has some serious drawbacks but it definitely beats not > exercising. Guest guest
What can you tell me about Curves? I keep hearing about it but have never been to one. How much does it cost and how is it different than any other gym? I gather the sessions are only 30 min and wondered why a person couldn't do it longer if they wanted. what sort of exercises are done there, etc? Guest guest
I think it's a kind of circuit workout, Darlene, where there are machines and then stations for you to walk in place or do some other kind of aerobic activity but I'm not really sure. I've never been a member myself, although my Mother in law is and she loves it. JenOn Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 9:02 AM, Darlene Barros <barrosd@...> wrote: What can you tell me about Curves? Guest guest
I was a member of Curves for a bit. It is a circuit workout. Every 30 seconds you change stations. Every other station is a walking pad where you can walk in place or do stair steps or run or any cardio type exercise. Then every other station works some specific group of muscles... leg lifts, forearm lifts. etc. It is designed to be a thirty minute workout, but you can go for as long as you want. They encourage you to do a cool down after doing the stations where you can do crunches, etc off of the circuit. When it wasn't busy, I would stay at one station longer, skip stations I didn't like, skip the walking stations, etc. I liked it and felt good after each workout. I quit, because one of my students started coming with her step mom at the same time I would come. I did not think an 8 year old should be there and it is a very close proximity circular workout area. I felt very uncomfortable hauling my fat a** from station to station with a little girl that would see me in an hour as their teacher! Yes, I could've started going to another Curves, but at the time I was doing this, I really wasn't ready to commit to weight loss. Maybe that was my excuse at the time. When I did get serious about weight loss, I started doing Sansone Walk Away the Pounds... LOVE THOSE!!!! I started off barely being able to do 1/2 of the 2 mile walk.... Slowly got farther and farther into the video... I actually got up to doing the 5 mile tape 2-3 times a day! apmleehere@...From: Geiar N'Dege <geiarsemail@...>100-plus Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 4:28:16 PMSubject: Re: Curves I think it's a kind of circuit workout, Darlene, where there are machines and then stations for you to walk in place or do some other kind of aerobic activity but I'm not really sure. Guest guest
This is the exact reason I don't work out on campus, a! If I was just a student I wouldn't mind, but I don't want to run into any of *my* students. It's hard enough for a TA to maintain authority in a classroom. I don't need my students seeing me a hot sweaty mess. I work out across town. Hi Darlene, I am sure you have gotten responses before this (I hope) but I am behind in responding to a few of these and can't remember what's in my inbox LOL. Curves is designed as a circuit. You spend 30 seconds on the "machine" that works different areas of your body and then 30 seconds on a "recovery pad" where you are to walk (or some jog, dance, etc) in place for 30 seconds. You can stay longer than 30 minutes, but my curves trainers always told me if I could stay longer, I wasn't working the machines hard enough during that 30 minutes. You should be begging to get off the machine by the time the cue says change stations. The recommendations are also for three times a week. There are ladies that go 5-6 days a week. This is ok too, as long as on the alternate days you are doing "less" on the machines and "more" focused on the cardio or the recovery pads. Price will vary based on area, like most gyms, as will the joining fee. If you watch for specials, sometimes you can get that lowered or waived. For example, during October they are running their breast cancer program so if you show proof that you have had your mammogram in the last year or two, you have that fee waived, they have food drives for the food banks and with a sack or two of food, have the fee waived, etc. If you have a Curves near you, I'd go talk with them, see what their prices are and maybe even see if you can have a 1-2 week trial period before committing.
