Guest guest
Thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone. Last month, I had to travel from my home in CT to the Pine Ridge Reervation in SD as part of my work. What a nightmare traveling is for the morbidly obese. The whole thing -- from buying clothes in size 4X and 5X, to having to pay for two airline seats, to having to ask the flight attendant for a seat belt extender............................... yikes, it was all a flippin' nightmare! I returned home on July 14 and vowed as I got off the plane that I would NEVER suffer these indignities and humiliations again. I had already been losing weight and exercising but got a lot more serious about it at that point. So my goal is semi long-term -- be able to travel comfortably in July 2010 when I have to return to SD. A month has gone by and I now have 11-months to reach my goal and I know I can do it if I really apply myself. I got more serious about exercise when I came home as that is realy key for me. Being THIS overwight gives one challenges and a perspective that only other really overweight people can share. That's why I looked for a group like this................ Anyway, glad to be here and I am diligently working towards my goal. Lori-Ann

I've never had to pay for 2 seats, but the time that I had to ask for an extender was the last straw. I'm slow losing the weight, but at least this route, I know it will stay off. Guest guest
It was amazing how many things I avoided when morbidly obese... travel, movies, restaurants, even BBQs... I was always afraid I would need an extender on the plane, wouldn't fit into movie seats, be seated in a booth at restaurants and those stupid plastic chairs at BBQs!My wake up call was being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestereol... When I had to get that pill box to remind me of all the pills I needed to take... That was my last straw!I have lost over 130+ pounds, but unfortunately have gained nearly 30 back in the past 2 years. We shall see how I do as I get back into exercising and do a bit more with counting carbs, calories and fat. apmleehere@...From: "ABrite@..." <ABrite@...>100-plus Sent: Saturday, August 15, 2009 12:29:44 PMSubject: Re: Goals for One Year What a nightmare traveling is for the morbidly obese. Guest guest
Thank goodness you are taking action now instead of 100 or more pounds from now. That you are catching it before it goes any further shows real progress From: pmleehere <pmleehere@...>Subject: Re: Goals for One Year100-plus Date: Saturday, August 15, 2009, 6:00 PM It was amazing how many things I avoided when morbidly obese... travel, movies, restaurants, even BBQs...
