Guest guest
I just had to share this as well since there has been talk about watching your baby like a hawk after a hospital birth. I was suprised to go to the hospital in labor and find that my baby was breach and they would try to turn him since and ultrasound revealed that the cord was wrapped around his neck. After dealing with that the best I could we went ahead with the c-section. When I was able to hold my baby in the recovery room I kept telling the nurse that I needed to breastfeed him, as I know how important it is to do asap and he was rooting around looking for it. I was still hooked up to the monitors and a lot of the cords were in my way. The nurse kept telling me she needed just a minute and then she would help me, after 5 minutes of being brushed off I moved things myself and got my baby boy what he wanted. When she came back to finally help me and her suprised response was your were serious you realy did want to nurse him! Duh, why do you think I kept asking? After refusing the hep-b and the eye goop (went with the vit k shot since he was c-section) they left us alone and when he went to the nursery he wasn't there long enough for me to feel nervous at all. The last day that I was there they came and got the baby for the ped to look at him and discharge him (I love my ped he is very respectfull of our decision) the ped came in and said everything looked good, my baby looked a little jaundiced but nothing to worry about unless it got worse over the weekend. After he left the room I told my husband he needed to go and get the baby because he had been gone to long and I was getting nervous what was going on. He left the room and the nurse came in and said your baby looks jaundice we held some monitor thing to his head (can't remember name) and he had a level of 14 and so we are drawing his blood. I was so shocked and she turned around and left that I couldn't even say to her the ped was just here not worried and neither am I! My husband walked in seconds later and I was in tears I told him what happened and he was off to rescue our baby. When he got to the nursery he saw someone getting a baby ready for a heal prick he said there was so many babies and it was hard to tell who was who but he wasn't taking any chances. He pounded on the glass and the nurse getting ready to do the prick came to him he said is that baby Hansen she said yes, he said have you done anything yet she said no, he said good we don't want anything done. The nurse asked if the babies nurse knew about this and he said it doesn't matter, he is coming with me. I have been wanting to share this since I had just over six weeks ago but haven't had the time until now. I am happy to report that he is jaundice free and hasn't had anything but natures best, breastmilk, since he was born! Marci
